quantitative whiners! – I cannot believe some of the whining here! My God this place is a TREASURE. The quality of the food is exceptional and the prices and portion sizes in ratio. Who needs piles and piles of food when each plate is an experience? I bring all of my out of town friends and clients here and it's always a resounding success. Beautiful! – Tsk*Tsk*Tsk* To all of you who criticize! If you want "the American dream" meal of 10lbs. of food for 5 dollars then flavor and exceptional culinary delights are not for you. small plates mean small plates – If you are prepared for small plates, you will love it. Our waiter was wonderful at getting us taken care of in time to make our movie. Soup was outstanding.
Delicious Find – Wow. What a great place. I was in town on business and was taken to Tabla by my clients. The food was out of this world. Fresh and great flavor. The waiter told me they fly their fish in from Hawaii daily. It was obvious the pasta was hand-made and the tajarin with truffle sauce - still dreaming about it. Hot new Spot! – Tabla hit the ground running. Their food is excellent, and surprisingly, so is the service for a brand new restaurant. Nice wines by glass too. Everything we ate was incredibly creatively prepared: you're stimulating all 5 senses with these dishes! One of the most interesting newcomers to hit the Portland dining scene in years. Go for flavors and textures and expect sane tasting portions. If you want quantity over quality then head to your local diner. This place is first-rate!
A Gourmet Surprise – During a recent trip to Portland, I took a "restaurant tour" of your city and Tabla was the best of the lot. The tajarin was obviously made in-house from scratch and was exquisite. The duck confit was as good as I have tasted in the U.S. Our waiter was attentive, polite and very wine savvy. Yummy! – Even though the portions are small (which is common at good restaurants) it is spectacular! It is not good for large groups though, our server was very irritated with our many requests and had a hard time hearing us through all the noise. I thought at times she was even rude but the host and chef made up for it. I will go there again!
Too Little – I agree with some of the other reviews posted. The food here is good, but the portions are too small. After spending over $100, we went to Burgerville because we were still hungry. Don't be mislead by the rating of $, although it is accurate. The plates are under $20, but they are not entrees! Hopefully, restaurants will find middle ground between Super Sizing and this.
Exquisite Food, wonderful service – ...and yes, a little pricey for the AMOUNT of food you get, but not when you consider the QUALITY of the food. If you want to get completely stuffed for your $$, you would do well to go elsewhere. If you want to try 5 or 6 or 10 superbly prepared samplings, with gracious and witty service, then this is the place for you. You ALSO get to sample 3 half-glasses of wine for only $10! What fun.
