Great Food, Bummer Service – One of my favorite things to do is to try to Portland eateries. I would much rather spend my money on local creative fair than at any chain place. It was a real bummer to have such great food and such poor service. Our party of 5 waited 20 minutes before our drink order was taken and 45 minutes for a small bowl of delicious olives. So hit or miss – I swear I am the biggest TABLA fan, however, whenever I open my big mouth and bring tons of folks there, something happens and things fall through the cracks. When I'm there with 1-2 people, the staff handle it fine. When I'm there with 4 or more, it seems overwhelming for the server. Favorite Spot! – This is by far our favorite restaurant - especially since they've added the $20 deal. The service is exceptional and we can't say enough about the food. While the portions may appear small, it's easily made up for in flavor. We've found that when the food is really good, you're much more quickly satisfied. puts nyc to shame – my husband and i were in portland on a visit, i had read about tabla on citysearch. the prix fix got my attention. 20 bucks, and nice portions, not like when restaurants in nyc offer prix fix, and your hungry when you leave. we were so full we did not have room for dessert, but on our second visit,(yes we went back two nights later!) my husband had to try dessert. the lamb ragu was amazing !! wait staff very nice and attentive. dining here is what going out to dinner is all about.
Great Food, Great Wine, Great Price – Definitely go in for the 3 course, $20 meal -- Though the portions look small, their density and richness make it more than enough for two people to share. The wine list is excellent and the service is efficient and unobtrusive. Our dessert was the only slight letdown -- don't get me wrong, it was good, just not up to par with the rest of the meal. Highly Recommended!
Amazing – Always packed for a reason! Make reservations and go for the $20 three course dinner option. It is SO delicious. I've eaten there a few times now and am never disappointed. After speaking to the chef/owner we found out that almost everything is local and/or organic. Yummy!!
I concur – We ate here last night and really liked it. The great thing about the three course 20 buck dinner is you get to pick anything you like from each section of the menu. Everything we had was either very good or excellent.
Visit Tabla and ask for Eugene! – Wow!! Once again, if I had read these reviews beforehand, I probably would never have ventured to this delightful restaurant. This would have been the second time in a month I went to a great restaurant that had less than wonderful reviews from "the commonfolk."
