Sweet Basil has replaced Laslow's Broadway Bistro, and its popularity is already evident. The upscale dining room boasts fine linens and a genuine Thai decor. As with most Portland Thai establishments, the curries are done to perfection here and make a wonderful accompaniment to all the meat and vegetable dishes that dominate the menu. If you are new to this food and not sure whether to go spicy or sweet, ask for a recommendation from your knowledgeable server. Wine and beer are also available.

Tantalizing Thai – For an outstanding Thai brunch, give Sweet Basil Thai on NE Broadway a try -- eat outside on their lovely deck covered by an arbor that's loaded with grapes. (9 for ambience on their covered deck, but not sure how the ambience will be during the winter months when the deck seating is not available.)
Good Night Sweet Basil – As the night turns so does their service. Their menu says they are open till 10 p.m., but if you show up at 9:30 p.m. they will show you the door. I guess they are in to big of a hurry to drive off in the Mercedes marked with the "basil" license plate. If you want to go, go early when they can focus on quality -- seems that they can't keep it up when their is a crowd. Often the food is served cold or with awkward timing.
Great food, great prices – Wow, it has so much selection of Thai food. Many unique flavors and dishes. I recommend the Rad Na dish for those not looking for a spicy dish and the Spicy Sweet Basil and get it "wild" for an awesome spicy kick! Lunch or dinner, it's a great place for Thai food and great atmosphere too!
Won't go back – We passed by Sweet Basil and had dinner there before we read anything about it - the atmosphere was quite good. Yet service was VERY slow. Phat Thai was OK - a bit more sour than other places. Yet their Penang Seafood is a NO NO!!! The salmon was rough and dry: not fresh - and the crap was bad and got a pretty disgusting smell: even the curry couldn't cover it... After we read the Citysearch posting there, we were even more disappointed to see its high rating.
Tai me up and call it good – Great food and atmosphere. The cost was a little high compared to India Oven which is also very good but not as expensive. But, I have gone a few times. Love the Food.
Hot Thai – I've been here for lunch several times and had good meals. The curries can be a bit heavy on the oil, but overall dishes here are flavorful and fresh. They really pay attention to presentation, too, which is nice. I like the black rice. The house it's in is a cute craftsman bungalo with a very nice patio out back. I need go back and try it for dinner.
