Sweet Basil has replaced Laslow's Broadway Bistro, and its popularity is already evident. The upscale dining room boasts fine linens and a genuine Thai decor. As with most Portland Thai establishments, the curries are done to perfection here and make a wonderful accompaniment to all the meat and vegetable dishes that dominate the menu. If you are new to this food and not sure whether to go spicy or sweet, ask for a recommendation from your knowledgeable server. Wine and beer are also available.

Raw Chicken!!! – I went on a weekday with a girlfriend for lunch. It took 20 minutes and a loud "excuse me" to get our order taken and after waiting an additional 45 minutes for our food to come...my friend's meal was cold and the chicken in my Rama Salad was raw...completely pink and stretchy. The service has always been pretty poor but their food usually makes up for it...this time their service was completely ridiculous and the food was raw...there's nothing more I can say other than I'll never go there again.
Disappointing – Dining experience was VERY disappointing. Read great reviews, but... Tables were virtually on-top-of eachother. One senior wait staff was rude and unhelpful in describing dishes. Food was mediocre, not worth the price.
Good Stuff!!! – Sweet Basil is a common favorite at my office to visit for lunch. The Pad Thai is the best any of us have found in Portland! The place is quaint and the decor is comfy however the service can take a while-expect to use your whole lunch hour here!
mouth watering – This restuarnt makes my mouth water. It is always consistent and delicious. The place is clean and one feels pampered and yet pays a very reeasonable price.
DELICIOUS! – This restaurant is adorable, service is great and the food is AMAZING!!
deserves credit – I find the Sweet Basil charming. It is *not* a soup kitchen, and not hurried. Quick noon snacks may or may not be an option, depending on one's schedule. If a person has more than an hour to enjoy the meal, I recommend this place. The visual presentation is the best part of the meal. Try the trout, for one, as an example. If you can stand "the heat", Sweet Basil will crank it up to any level without destroying the meal. Note that Sweet Basil has a restaurant recently opened (same people) on Powell Street in... read more
Wonderful Brunch – I just got back from the Sunday brunch and can't wait to go back there again next sunday. The food was so................................ good, especially the Sweet & Sour Halibut and the rest of the food was wonderful as usual.
Overated – Overpriced, small portions, crowded tables set-up, snail's pace service, and presentation that's too 'artistic' and trying to be something its not.
yummy/so-so service – Been there a few times now. Love the outdoor seating. Always very good food. Almost always slow service. After you your food comes very quick. No Problems in the kitchen. But if your there for lunch you might have to get up and find your waiter to place and order and they never seem to want you to give them money. They just kinda avoid eye contact. Too bad, the food and ambience are great!
