As with most Portland Thai establishments, the curries are done to perfection here and make a wonderful accompaniment to all the meat and vegetable dishes that dominate the menu. Best food ever – The Pinapple Fried rice is awesome, everyone should try it.
great peanut sauce – I visited during lunch hour when it wasn't at busy. Overall my meal was good, however, there were enough mushrooms in each of my dishes to cover the forest floor. They probably are most well known for their specialty dishes which doesn't include the Pad Thai--it was extremely oily. I did love the peanut sauce though!!! ... but i couldn't get the waitress to smile at me. After awhile it became my mission, and alas, I managed to squeak one little smile out of her. sweet basil is terrific – dinner at sweel basil was terrific. we chose all tofu dishes and they were superb. very nicely seasoned and very fresh ingredients. attentive service. kudos to sweel basil
Check it out!! – The Basil Bar has besome my new favorite bar! They have the best appretizers in town for happy hour. The bar tenders are always very freindly and on top of service. The ambiance in the bar is very nice. Kind of dark with candles at every table, they are always playing great music and have a big screen tv playijng what ever you want. It's very cozy and warm. No Longer Recommend – The food and ambience always used to overcome the poor service, but now the food is as bad as the wait staff's attentiveness. When a plate arrived bland, lukewarm and with cold vegetables, a request to have the dish fixed was met with a blank stare and sullen removal. It was returned warmed it spots while the vegetables remained cold - as if they had stuck it in the microwave for less than a minute. You've got to love a Sweet Basil's so confident you'll go bananas over a tempura roll stuffed with crab, fresh basil and cream cheese that it calls the thing"O MY GOD." You may find yourself uttering the same words after tasting. great flavors and beautifully presented. Inside seating is romantic and quiet; the covered deck is fabulous in the summer. Great, friendly service.
Horrible Service – This restaurant is great during the summer because of their porch out back. However, the service is awful. Our waitress went bolting from our table to answer her cell phone and then came back talking on it! It's really too bad that their service is so awful because otherwise it is kind of a fun trendy place to go.
