Worst insurance company I've had to deal with. They have incorrectly processed multiple claims surrounding the birth of my daughter. I had to contact them and tell them her pediatrician was in fact 'in-network' and that I only owed the co-payment. They tried to deny my claim for a hospital stay in the form of a letter, stating my symptoms weren't covered and in that list of symptoms was the reason for my hospital stay, so they corrected that and they are now trying to charge a copayment for a hospital stay claiming it isn't ... read more

By far the worst insurance I have ever had. The provider list was full of mistakes and took several hours to find a doctor that was reachable and taking patients. When I finally did find a doctor that was taking patients it turns out that Aetna only accepts 2 of the 20 doctors in the office and all the claims were denied even though it is a single practice. My son had an emergency and required an ambulance to transport him from the emergency room to pediatric care at another location. Aetna refused to consider it in network ... read more

Aetna has been an absolute nightmare to work with. They are very unorganized and take a very long time to approve procedures. It almost seems like they follow the mantra of delay and deny. I needed a surgery on my knee and they denied the claim and stated it was an experimental surgery. Not sure how it's experimental as it was the only way to make my knee better. This company is great unless you actually need to use your insurance you have with them. I'm going on 6 mo. They bury you in paper work to try and deny your claim. None of their "customer service reps" have helpful information to further help your case, And after being dodged by my "case manager" she placed the blame on anyone and everyone except her not doing her job. It's shameful, and down right disgraceful. If negative stars were allowed, I'd give them!!

My family has recently had a very negative experience with their life insurance policy. My mother in law passed away, we were first told it would pay 100%, then 60%, then 40%, and finally 0% based on something they found in their review that lead to her answering a question falsely, when that was disproved they then changed it to something else, issued refund for all premiums paid and have washed their hands of our family and we are left with 100% of a 10k+ funeral bill. I am a provider that accepts Aetna. I had three different people on their staff tell me how much a patient owed for services, which I collected. Fast forward 8 months later and Aetna is telling me I owe the patient monies. I am furious. The patient and I went round and round over this issue 8 months ago. I tried filing a claim and then an appeal through Aetna's website. Their user interface is so terrible that it took multiple calls to figure out how to attach documents supporting my claim (I live on my computer so not knowing how to attach documents on this website was a shock). Furthermore, you cannot copy and paste messages into their message box, you have to physically type it in or you will get an error message. Do not buy insurance from this company! My son inadvertently purchased a policy through his college (Michigan State University) when he already has insurance. When he realized it, he filed a grievance with Aetna asking for a refund of the premium from the current date forward. We would have liked to ask for it all back since he didn't need the insurance and wasn't even aware he had the insurance, but we thought that the premium going forward would be a fair compromise.
