Souley Vegan

About this business

When one hears the term "soul food" probably the last thing they would associate it with is the word "vegan," but Oakland's Souley Vegan has made the oxymoron a reality. Diners can choose from all kinds of familiar Southern foods like fried okra, cornbread and collared greens, along with some not so familiar dishes like BBQ or fried tofu. Souley Vegan cooks up all its food with soul, as the name implies, making it so good you might not even notice the lack of animal products.

The Cayenne Lemon Drop is to die for!! Fried okra is just like my great grandmothers- except it's cruelty free :) And the Buffalo Seitan strips are nice and spicy. :)

I don't know what was better, the food or the service. The Quinoa and black bean burger really captured the decadence and richness of a hamburger. The black eye peas fritters was both familiar and new. Souley Vegan is the tops.

The BBQ tofu, chicken fried tofu, and mac and cheese are AMAZING! I know most omnivores don't go in for vegan food or at least arrive at it with doubts, but when I take friends here everyone leaves full and happy.

Business response:

Hey Tim thanks for the love glad you enjoyed the food!! 👍

Souley Vegan is top on my list of mandatory vegan eats while in the Bay Area. Screamin food.

THE most delicious food I've ever eaten comes from this restaurant! The owner is so friendly and the ambience is on point, just like the food! I will ALWAYS stop here EVERY time I'm in Oakland.

This was not my first time eating at Souley Vegan and it most definitely won't be my last!! Everything was delicious as always!! I did have a first while I was there and I am now a Creole Pop'ens addict. BEST JALAPEÑO POPPERS, vegan or not. I now have to budget for every time I am in Oakland because I have to get an order of Creole Pop'ens.

I loved almost everything we ordered. (Fried okra, creole spaghetti, combo plate with collard greens, BBQ tofu, mac n cheese and cornbread. ) The greens had some kind of spice that just didn't go together, ditto for the cornbread. From a service perspective, we were pretty much ignored except when they brought out our food. All in all, it was a good experience and we will definitely go back again. Oh yeah, did I mention the green apple mimosa? Amazing!
