Shinsei Restaurant

4.5

About this business

Shinsei, famous for its interactive sushi bar, is run by the renowned duoTracy Rathbun and Lynae Fearing. The contemporary restaurant was designed with a Texas flair and incorporates bright colors in green and yellow hues. With the addition of habanero mayonnaise, Maui onions, hibiscus vinegar, and jalapenos, these peppy creations add a kick to the normal sushi rolls. Land lovers have quite a few options as well with pork and beef tenderloin options and more. Finish on a sweet note and savor the cherry tart or the cake with ... read more

fix it – I am appalled at the last reviewers experience. I am the owner of Shinsei and try to do my very best to ensure every guest has a exceptional experience. I only hope the reviewers who have a bad experience will ask to speak to a manager when it happens so it can be rectified at the time. I apologize for the rudeness of any person at our establishment. It is extremelly disturbing to me. I take all compliants very seriously. Any one is welcome to call me directly at the restaurant. The number and email is listed on cit... read more

Offensive – My fiance and I were excited to try this place because we love sushi and this restaurant was recommended to us. We arrived after 7:00 on a Tuesday night and there were about 5 small empty tables I could see in the front of the restaurant. The hostess had an abrasive "air" to her kind of like a snotty retail sales associate (which I could never understand given their job description). I said "We don't have a reservation. Do we need one?" She responded, "Well that's why I'm trying to figure out where you are going ... read more

give them time – I was originally going to title the review "Japanese for Slow" but that seems a bit harsh in retrospect. Yes, we were stuck at the hostess stand with another couple and were barely acknowledged by the waitstaff; yes, the bartender seemed more interested in banter than in servicing a crowded bar; and yes we were marooned at the end of the sushi bar while we waited for our server to arrive. In all fairness though it was 9:15 on a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed. Plus the place is fairly new so I e... read more

Just another take on fine dining – We visited the restaurant on a weekend night. Although quoted a wait time of less than an hour, we didn't get to our table till way beyond an hour and a half. I felt the service was rushed and unprofessional(no names to be mentioned), and the food was hardly mediorce. Unfortunatley the bill was incorrect, when asked the waitstaff was rude. It was fixed with great reluctance, and we were made to feel very unwelcome. Because this is our first visit with utmost dissatifaction, and am I doubtfu... read more

This place is great! Don't believe the other reviews! – I love sushi and eating! I think I'm pretty picky about fancy places, too. I like to get my money's worth. The sushi here was amazing. We had the yellowtail special with a great sauce from the sushi chef. My boyfriend thought the cod was even better than the one at Nobu! The sangria was really good too. I really think this is one of the best restaurants in Dallas. I would love to come back. But the wait is horrific right now, it's so busy. So, just prepare yourself for ... read more

wonderful service and exceptional food – I happened about the hippest new restaurant by chance. My friends and i wanted to grab a quick bite before a movie at inwood theater and came across shin sei. We were warmly greeted and had to wait about twenty minutes for a table, but that was not a problem. Our server, Channel, was right on time with her quick wit and knowlege about the menu. She guided us along and recommended various things for us to try-all of which were amazing. We will definitely go back and for anyone wanting ... read more

Great Experience! – I loved my experience at Shinsei. We started in the lounge which is lovely, small, comfortable and eclectic. The Shinsei Sangria is a must! Very refreshing and different. Upstairs we had edamame and stuffed Jalapenos that were out of this world. We were greated by Mrs. Fearing and had a nice conversation with her. We were seated downstairs after the perfect amount of time with our cocktails and appetizers upstairs. We had a bit of everything from the awesome fried rice (fried egg on top!), to their signat... read more

Foodie: Had a wonderful time – I am really surprised to read the last two comments on here. I have dined at Shinsei even before Chef Casey Thompson was on Top Chef. If anything at all, this place has grown to be quite a dining experience-food has matured and the special sheets feature exquisite items, we have never had a problem with service, though it has been increasingly more busy since the airing of the show. The food is not cheap, but when we dine, we look at cost as paying for what you get- and the value here is worth ... read more

WELL WORTH THE WAIT – Yes, we did have to wait, but it was well worth it. Besides, what do you expect at 7:30 on a Friday night at THE place to be. The service was more than accomadating, and the food was outstanding. Complimented by the city's most food friendly wine list; what can I say, the experience was beyond fulfilling.
