Sandy and Laura Sanborn founded Big Spring Ranch for Boys in the central Colorado Rockies in 1948. In 1962, they built High Trails Ranch for Girls a mile from the Big Spring site. I attended Sanborn in the 70's for four years. Back in the day we attended for six weeks. It was my idea to go. I was the only one in my family who did too. It had such a positive role in my life. It gave me such strength, peace, wisdom and survival skills that carried me through multiple unusual times in my life! I have the best memories, visions of pikes peak during vespers, aspen groves, the red gravel and the smell of sagebrush. Our 15 year old son is there now. He is the last of five, all of who attended Sanborn! All of our children thank us for Sanborn! All agreeing it was the best times and best thing for them. We all get to share this common thread. My husband is the one left perplexed and hates the kids being away for a month! He tears up at the airport while I know they'll be in good hands and sad to come home in a month! Our second daughter actually chose Sanborn as her little destination wedding five years ago! We had the most personal ceremony on high Trails vespers rocks with Pikes Peak in the back drop! The family stayed in the Nature Place. We hiked, climbed, sang around the campfire, laughing all night! So fun! Thinking of camp, missing my Max, but wishing I was 15 and at camp again! Best camp ever!
