Sandy and Laura Sanborn founded Big Spring Ranch for Boys in the central Colorado Rockies in 1948. In 1962, they built High Trails Ranch for Girls a mile from the Big Spring site. The Sanborn Junior program for children 7-10 started in 1989. Tens of thousands of young people have participated in our Colorado summer camp for girls, boys, and teens over the last 60 years. My brother, sister and I went to Sanborn in the 1980s. I was there for five-week sessions in 1984 and 1988. The first time I went, my brother was there during the same session, but we were in different age groups and each pursued our own activities. It was a great adventure and learning experience! I had gone camping with my family for a couple of nights at a time and attended a two-week summer camp two different years prior to going to Sanborn, but without a doubt, Sanborn had the most to offer for down-to-earth fun and adventure!
