Got up early presidents Monday and was there at 6:00 am for the hike uo the Butte. Was just getting light and still a bit chilly, but the scenery was so beautiful. The sun coming up over the mountain and stretching across the desert was fantastic. I hiked up in the shade the majority of the hike, which was good and bad. Bad because it was cold, but good because now i know when to hike it in the Hot weather. Made it to the top , it took me about 1 1\2 hours to summit, and was well worh it. I own a home right at the base of Saddle Back Butte Park. We are quite fortunate to have this area preserved just as it was thousands of years ago. They film quite often in the area due to it's unparalleled beauty!

I came here after hiking at Devil's Punchbowl and looking across the desert valley I saw the distinct shape of a saddleback mountain that reminded me of Saddleback Mtn. or Santiago Peak on the Inland Valley side. I didn't realize both mountains are in fact called Saddleback Mountain, and the resemblance is striking, like mirror opposites of each other when viewed from a distance.
