The idea for Ruby’s Diner was born in 1980 after a run on the beach. Doug Cavanaugh had just returned to his native Southern California after successfully restoring and running a restaurant on Nantucket Island off Cape Cod. 50's diner with great milkshakes the way they were meant to be made. Views of the ocean, Catalina Island, and Long Beach to name the main views. Great service, and great management.

The service was terrible. Had to ask for coffee refill and our cups were empty. The food came really cold. Our guest had to send her plate back because the hollandaise sauce was sour. I couldn’t eat my food it was so cold but didn’t want to complain because the food took so long to get to us I didn’t have time to reorder so I took it home. First time I’ve been disappointed there. So bad. Thanks for asking because I’ve been thinking about it all day.
