This hideaway bistro needs to get the word out! Best marinara sauce south of New York. I dropped in for lunch and the chicken and sweet sausage over penne pasta was amazing. It was a pink sauce and the flavors came out and kicked you in head. Fantastic! The owner, who makes the sauce, came over with a small sample of the red. The pink is his sauce mixed with cream. When I had the undiluted real thing it blew me away and made me wish I'd ordered the chicken parm sandwich. I ate outside and the weather was too hot for spaghett... read more
If you want authentic Italian cooking this is the place. Great ambience and service is quick. Food came hot. Desserts made on premises are very fresh. Met the owner and he is real funny guy. Told a few jokes which busted me up. I won't repeat them because I want to tell them to my buddies personally. He said they will be starting wine tastings soon. I'll go to that. Free appetizers! I joined the email list so I'll know what's going on. Will be back with friends.
I don't think I will go back unless it is just for a drink and appetizer at the bar. The atmosphere and service was great. I had the Lobster ravioli and was surprised that there entrees do not come with a salad. My dinner was good but for $25.00 and no salad, I would have thought it would be excellent . I had the bruschetta and it was very good and a glass of wine. My total bill without the tip was $45 and some change. I could have went to a couple of other Italian restaurants and got better food, a salad , a glass of wine a... read more
Roma Tomatoes is definitely the best restaurant in Summerville. The food is fantastic, the service is wonderful and the pricing is lower than one would expect. And that isn't even the best part. My wife and I had been there just after they opened and wanted to bring our sons with us. David, a terrific waiter, took our drink order and returned with some tasty bread. The owner, Andy, came over and introduced himself. He asked the boys (7 & 10) if they wanted to sit at the counter by the kitchen and watch the chefs cook. He sai... read more
Yaaaaay! They're open for lunch! It's about time someone had the guts and the smarts to do so. There is no where in the oakbrook area to have a nice, peaceful sit down meal. The restaurant is amazingly clean. The ladies room is beautifully decorated. The kitchen, which isn't hidden behand a wall is spotless. You get the picture. I'm a neat freak and appreciate an effort when it's made. Oh, by the way, the food is incredibly delicious. The Marinara sauce on my baked ziti was unlike any I've ever had before. Really smooth and ... read more
From the moment I walked in, I knew this place was back and better than ever. The host at the door was handsome, well dressed, and engaging. He was friendly as he took me to my seat and informed me of who my server would be. I could tell the place was a little busy, and there was only one server from what I could see, but she was at my table introducing herself and taking my drink order within 2 minutes. Once I had my drink (again, in a very timely manner), my server was more than attentive regardless of her several other ta... read more
I had the pleasure of dining at the old Tomatoes Restaurant a couple of years ago. I recently returned with my unit from deployment in Iraq. I hadn't noticed the place had changed to Roma Tomatoes. I was pleasantly surprised when the server told me that military received a 10% discount. I joked that they owed me a refund from my last visit. She informed me that the place had changed hands and that I would have to take that up with the previous owner. I thought that was clever and ordered a couple of drinks. The new menu just... read more
My husband and I enjoyed lunch here the other day and we were pleasantly surprised. While we were never particularly unhappy with the restaurant under its previous ownership, the new owners have definitely taken it up a few notches. We were greeted almost immediately by our server who was kind, informative, and very accommodating. While her knowledge on the wine was limited (which is due to the fact that they will be ordering all new wines from what I was told, so we understood), the manager was more than happy to assist in ... read more
Great atmosphere and even better food! I've been here many times before when they were under different owners. I must say, the new owners are just as friendly! It's always a great time. The restaurant is pretty large and well decorated. One of my favorite things about this place is the open kitchen! I usually get chicken parm or the chicken Marsala. I scrape the plate clean everytime, not to mention the service is always impeccable. Summerville needs more nice fine dining, yet elegant places such as Roma Tomatoes. This place... read more
