I worked there 1 day to find, employees telling me not to work her find a job anywhere else, this place is hell. Saw with my own eyes, an employee walking by the big frosting bucket on the floor and stick his finger in to get some frosting. Saw they open pkgs of strawberries, not wash them and cut them up and put them in red sauce and put them on pies. I will never, never buy any bakery item from them ever again.
Well, I made another visit to Rider's yesterday. I have been shopping there since the day it opened, and it's the same. Most times when I walk out I ask myself why didn't I just drive the extra 10 minutes to Heinens (where I have also been shopping since the late 70s and could count any poor customer service incidents on one hand#. Don't get me wrong, Riders is convenient, has a great meat, wine, deli, and produce department. Their bakery needs a lot of work. Just once I would like to get a fresh loaf of bread in there. Ask any employee that does or has worked at reider's...the owner wears plastic gloves while working in the meat department, walks into bathroom while still wearing the gloves, uses the facilities and walks out still wearing the gloves.... and yes, back to the meat department. No thanks, after hearing that, he lost my business.
Love the Chairman's Reserve meats and the homemade sausage. The bakery is one of the best around and they have made fabulous cakes for me for special occasions including one shaped like a baby carriage for a baby shower. All of my guests raved about the design and the taste. The produce is always fresh and the selection of market made items is great. I have friends in Canfield that bring a cooler and shop here just because they like it as much as I do.
I was quoted one price on the phone by Debbie in the bakery and when we went to order cupcakes for my daughters wedding they said it would be 60 cents more per cupcake!! I didn't matter what I had been quoted!! The interesting part was the "decorated" cupcakes in the case, their signage, stated they were $1.29 which is what I was quoted. They said the price would be $1.89. Needless to say, I will find a different place!! Sherry
The mood of store is horrible because the owner is miserable. He treats nobody with respect. He belittles his workers and his customers...nobody should have to work under those conditions. If someone would buy him out, the store would be great. Anybody who currently or has worked for him in the past deserves an award....he is a disgrace to retail businesses.
I didnt know god owned this store. The owner thinks he knows it all , but everyone can see right through him. I will use his famous phase when he knows your right. Have a good day and walks away.
I bought Russian Tea Cakes for a long time there, and for the last 3 times they have been over charging me for them. I always buy 4 so they fit just right in the box they put them in, and on April 6, 2014 is when I started to notice that in stead of them charging me $6.00 dollars for four, they where charging me $7.96. So I called and talked with Laura at the service desk and she told me to bring in my last 3 slips and she will take care of me with cash or 4 more Russian Tea Cakes! We don't have a wide selection of grocery stores in our area but after today, Heinen's will be my go to store. I went to Reider's to check out the standing rib roast for our holiday dinner and once again I had the displeasure of having the owner Bruce wait on me. Big mistake of doing this without my husband, who absolutely hates going to this store as well.
