Their 2040 land use plan and disregard for public input has led to a destructive fencing, land clearing and quarry project that will sever the NCDOT US-01 Bikeway and East Cosst Greenway and will put recreational users at risk. The sensitive ecological landscape will be forever harmed by RDUAA’s rush to destroy this land. #StopRDUQuarry #ProtectUmsteadStatePark #NoBarbedWireFencing Sign up to SaveRDUForest.com
They are trying to destroy the environment by putting a quarry next to Umstead State Park. That’s not in the best interest of our community and there are other, better options to help with their funding. They have not been transparent or honest during this process.
The fact that only for the sake of profits they are allowing a lease to a quarry on natural areas and erecting a fence around land that could be rented or sold at a profit adjacent to Umstead State Park. The fence endangers wildlife and the quarry endangers our air quality, wetlands, and noise pollution. Not to mention deterioration of surrounding housing values.
Bad community partner. The airport authority is made up of several members who are developers looking to make a sweet heart deal to their friends at Wake Stone. They plan to allow a quarry on leased public land. Damaging the air and water quality right next to our states most visited state park.
they should continue to focus on travel and get out of the destruction of forests to support private quarry business... stay in your lane RDU
RDUAA board plans to lease land to a private corporation for a polluting, irreversible, 400 foot deep rock mine in an environmentally sensitive area next to Crabtree Creek and adjacent to our most visited State Park, Umstead. Quarries do not belong next to recreation areas and the destruction is forever. Additionally, they plan to spend 2.5 million dollars to install an 8ft security fence with 3 rows of barbed wire on top, clearing 15ft of forest on each side =30ft clearing, 8 miles long! Completely unnecessary and dangerous... read more
The RDU airport authority has no concern for the long term impacts of a quarry on land that they manage which is adjacent to Umstead State Park. The management does not care about the community or the citizens of the Triangle and only works to further their own interests. If you do have to fly here, be sure to leave an extra hour for your bags to come off of the world’s slowest baggage delivery.
$18/day to park. Very few eating choices.
RDU should stop leasing prime forest to a strip mining polluter!
