Had first appt. With Dr Poelstra. He took a lot of time explaining my condition and what he could do to remedy. It’s completely understandable why he sometimes runs late. I appreciate his calm and reassuring manner and look forward to finally getting rid of this back pain. His nurses were very kind as well.
My wife has had a double neck surgery and now is preparing for double back surgery. Her neck surgery went great and her recovery is amazing. No other surgeon would even attempt her back but Dr. Poelstra is ready. After discussing the procedure with him we felt he was highly qualified and competent in performing the surgery she needed. Dr. Poelstra did not show up for a preop consult appointment that I drove across town for and his office staff did not bother to notify me he had called out that day. So I postponed my surgery another week while on pain meds just to have this exact thing happen again. Only after waiting in his lobby for 30 minutes I asked what the delay was and they said the Dr. wasn't even there AGAIN and the office staff were rude and unapologetic. Thanks to this wonderful surgeon, I have my husband back. My husband started falling and was unable to control his balance. We had more visits to the ER by ambulance being told nothing was wrong. Then my husband had another episode and I brought him to Southern Hills Hospital. Best move we ever made. I met Dr. Kornelis Poelstra in early 2022. I was loosing my ability to walk or stand for any length of time; also I was loosing strength and dexterity in my arms and hands. I was told by various Drs. I had neuropathy, but never given any treatment plan to reverse the direction of these symtoms. Very frustrating. Dr. Poelstra performed decompression surgery on my lower back on 3/15/22. I had severe leg pain in both legs for the last 8 months. I was impressed with Dr. Poelstra from my first appointment, he explained to me exactly what was wrong and how he was going to fix it in terms I understood. I had my surgery Nov 3rd, 2021 ACDF C5-C7 and before my surgery was scared to death! Dr Poelstra and staff were there to answer any questions or concerns I had and explained the procedure and recovery process thoroughly. Even though I was still very nervous and who isn't before having a surgery, I knew it was necessary due to being in pain and numbness and tingling down both arms to my fingers.
