About this business

A popular lunch spot, Po Melvin's dishes up excellent Louisiana Cajun home cooking at reasonable prices. Don't look too hard in the oversized aquarium for the "invisible fish" as the sign suggests, they tend to be difficult to see. Set your sights on the unusually spicy Roast Beef or an exceptional Hand-Breaded Chicken Fried Steak dinner. Jalapeno cornbread, a favorite, is moist and spicy and has chunks of corn mixed throughout. No alcohol is served. Po Melvin's is close to DFW Airport and local hotels. We've been going to Po' Melvin's for years and years. They have a great menu of down home Southern cooking, but the best thing by far is their roast beef and brown gravy. It's more like a pot roast, really. It's super tender and juicy and full of flavor. Whenever we are in Irving, we always stop by to pick up several orders to go. Highly recommended!

Good southern home cooking. I had chicken & dumplings and they were great! I've also had their pot roast and the red beans and rice with a pork chop. Everything is wonderful.

Food was great and staff was very friendly. The outside looked a little sketchy but don't let it fool you. It was worth the visit. Try the fried pork chops!

Ate there regularly in 2000 and 2001 was fanatically obsessed with the food. Yesterday succeed and so did the service. Portion to money was great, but the overall quality just want there anymore.

Excellent home cooking. I've been dining with this family owned restaurant for many years & have marveled that I've never had a bad experience. The food is always tasty, hot and served with a smile. My usual is the blackened chicken on rice with choice of 2 veggies (usually boiled cabbage & greens). The fried catfish is on par with the best around the Dallas area. I love the Greek salad. The chicken fried steak is a favorite but I like the chicken fried chicken better. Great meatloaf, roast beef and many Cajun dishes. Weeken... read more
