UPMC Harrisburg demonstrated a profound lack of medical oversight and reckless disregard for patient saftey. I was here on an involuntary mental health stay. I was treated absolutely terribly, like an animal not a human. I was treated like I was an annoyance to the staff, not a patient. From the moment I walked into Harrisburg Hospital I was disappointed. There were two women at the front desk who were unbelievably rude to me. From making me feel stupid for not knowing where to go, to acting like asking to get my ticket validated was absolutely the worst task. I am a healthcare professional and this is not a good look for a hospital system. Always a professional and friendly experience with UPMC Harrisburg. Thorough medical professionals, attentive nurses, CPAs with great bedside manner, polite housekeeping team and the food is good! Expect to be treated with dignity and respect here..and maybe a few laughs from this upbeat, diverse staff. You can also expect clear and honest communication from the doctors! I waited in the ER for over 5 hours with my granddaughter. Check-in was fast. Triage was fast. EKG was fast; X-rays were fast. Waiting on the results took hours and hours and hours. I’m not kidding, it was the worst ER experience. Horrible experience!
My family member was taken there after being found drunk and passed out in a parking lot. When we were called and told someone needed to pick him up, we asked for help because he clearly needs detox/rehab. The doctor himself said “we don’t help with that, just drop him off at one.” How does a doctor not know that’s not how that works? And how does a hospital not have any resources? Absolutely disgusted.
