About this business

Mix and match items from the creative menu at this romantic bistro, which features American food with a twist. You first pass under an American flag and then enter the dining room walking past photos of regulars and the staff. Standard rosemary chicken gets a touch of salsa and barbecued ribs are topped with peach and mango relish. Diners favor the overstuffed Chicken Potpie and the grilled Mile High Sirloin Steak. The bar is always jumping.

Solid Neighborhood Restaurant - A Keeper – Well girlfriend, it was another Thursday and we chose Philip Marie as our place for drinks and starters. This was a good choice. Firstly, the barkeep was friendly and invited us in, making us feel perfectly at home. We came before it became crowded and so we had him to ourselves, however, he was still very attentive even as the restaurant filled up. Clearly a popular place. And we could see why. We had 2 plates: the smoked salmon with goats cheese on toasts was a winner. Simple and ... read more

Great Service! – While waiting for a table near by we discovered Philip Marie... Good wine list, great service! If we didn't have to meet folks elsewhere I would have loved to stay for dinner. Definitely on my list of places to return to.

Awesome Wine Room – Last week my boyfriend took me to Phillip Marie for our one year anniversary. We dined in their private wine room in the lower level of the restaurant. We had five courses, and each was paired with a different wine. Our server guided us through the whole meal and was very knowlegable. The courses were varied and paired very well with the wine. My boyfriend and I have both traveled to Napa and we were impressed by the selection of California wines. The lighting in the room was a little too dim and romantic... read more

Always wonderful!!! – I've been to Phillip Marie for dinner, for lunch, for brunch, and for a large party special occasion. In every case, the service was friendly but unobtrusive, the ambience was pleasant and the food was impeccable. They manage to accomplish all this without robbing you blind. Sure it's not super-fine dining, but this is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC nonetheless. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be there at least 3 times a week. Fantastic!

Stay away from the couples private room – My husband and I opted for the couples private room dinner (wine room) for our anniversary and it was such a waste of money. The place was so cramped and hot and suffocating. People kept coming down to the bathroom, which was right next to our room, and standing in the doorway peeking in. It was not romantic, but instead irritating and annoying. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. It's a nice idea but it does not work well.

Mediocre Brunch – Good butternut squash soup and chocolate chip pancakes. Crabcake benedict was dissapointing and the service was lacking. Not sure if we would come back as there are a lot better restaurants in the city.

Business response:

We are very dissapointed that your experience was not what you expectedit to be. We take your comments serious and we will take care of the problems you had. We hope to see you soon.

The Best Value for the Wine Tastings on Thursdays – This has been the best experience of my life!!! The wines that were chosen were so well paired with little plates. For only $25 per person with 5 tastings, where else can you find something like that??? The service is superb, from the knowledgeable staff and the attentive busboys and the lovely manager there! Finally, me and my boyfriend found a hot spot that we'll be going back for more and more! I cant wait to go back again!

The wine room is lovely – I took my fiance here a couple of weeks ago for a private birthday dinner in the wine room. We did have to wait a little while (15 mins or so), but the staff was very friendly about it and comped our drinks at the bar. The wine room is small and lovely. The bottles of wine, candlelight and soft music create a beautiful atmosphere. It really felt like a special occasion. Our server was very helpful and accommodating as we selected our menu and the food, though not the most creative, was very good. Th... read more

Good food, good music – I made reservation at Philip Marie on a Wednesday night, jazz night and it was just perfect. The four of us took an appetizer which was very good. We had some bread and olive oil while we were waiting. Then I had the shrimps and the others had the steak and everything was very good. The music was nice, not too loud, just perfect. I would recommand this restaurant to anyone.
