My new favorite place – I went to Paley's Place for the first time and was extremely impressed. The ambiance was great, the staff was friendly and accommodating, the waiter was attentive and the food was outstanding. I would highly recommend Paley's Place and I will definitely be going back.

Browns from Ventura, CA – Wow! This place rocks. We had the most delicious oysters, smoked and citrus cured.....way big! Great service, great food, really romantic for that special time (I proposed that night...and she said YES). Go Oysters! You gotta try it...and let us know about the other selections... GB

Not that Great.... – We went to Paley's Place for my birthday this year. While the food was really good, for the price I think there are much better places in the city. The selection is pretty limited as well.

Expensive and not what it seems... – When you consider that most entrees here are in the $20-30 range, it just doesn't stack up against the other Portland offerings at similar price points. Higgins absolutely trumps Paleys Place in terms of value and has a larger, MORE vegetarian menu. It is misleading to go to Paleys expecting a vegetarian experience because when I went on June 30 there were only 2 entrees that were without meat. To their credit, the service was great and the atmosphere very pleasant, but for the price it s... read more

Nice, quiet and enjoyable. – The first thing I noticed at Paley's was the service. The waitress was quiet, polite, and incredibly attentive. The wife and I went to Paley's to slow our day down and enjoy another birthday, and there was no place better to do so. The food was excellent, and I think what a lot of people miss is the sutleness of the dishes: they're organic, and NW. It was my thoughts that the dishes were created to enhance this, not go "over the top" as one reviewer put it. Had the Gnocci, and Halibut. Wife had t... read more

Paley's Pales.... – Sat at the bar, GREAT service. Beautiful restuarant. Orderd the lamb. The technique was nice, the lamb was tender, the potatoes done just right....but they lacked flavor. I don't think anyone in the kitchen is tasting the food before it's sent out or they wouldn't have let my dish out the door before adjusting the seasoning. I was disappointed. I honestly expected more attention to detail from a restaurant and chef so highly rated. I had the steak tartare as an appetizer and that was nicely done. Too bad ... read more

Good foo foo – Members of this category of resturant are all starting seem the same: good, but too expensive for what you get. And for those prices, it should be great. Nevertheless, the lamb was good, but too gamey. Halibut entree on the special 25 for $25 menu was very good. Desserts were nothing special. Service by both the "hostess" and server was great. Very romantic, especially for occasions.

For the price, I expected more – Paley's Place is quite a nice and cozy place. We ordered appetizer, entree, and dessert. The appetizer was a salad, which was quite appetizing. The entree (halibut) was decent, but I expected more out of this place. I wish there was more flavor. The dessert was average; there's nothing special about it. As for the service, I do have a warning. The service was slow, but this is what I like. When going to "haute cusine" place, I do not want to be rushed. I enjoyed spending time talking, etc. No... read more

Don't go to Paley's – Just don't bother going. The service, while polite, was very slow and unattentive. the food was reasonably prepared and nicely presented. The apprenticeships for waiters was annoying. The food took so long in coming (mistimed as well) that my date asked to go home early. Folks, do not ever order anything you can't consume on the premises - they will refuse to prepare your remaining order to go, but they are very happy to charge your for it... There are far better places in Portland to spend 80 on dinner... read more
