This welcoming northwest bistro immediately charms its guests. The subtle floral decor and clean lines are casually elegant. Also, a limited number of tables assure attentive service while enjoying a meal. Begin your meal at the Paley's Place with a bottle of house wine and a fresh green salad. Upscale entrees include crispy sweetbreads, escargot, and braised duck. Insatiable types should wrap things up with rich desserts, such as Paley’s vanilla crème brûlée or caramel hazelnut tart.

Simply, and without doubt, the best Portland has to offer. – I have tasted the best Los Angeles, Paris, New York, London and Hong Kong have to offer and Paley's is of the same caliber as Gordon Ramsey, The French Laundry, Spaggo and Le Bernadin. How refreshing to go to a TRUE gourmet restaurant where it is all about the food itself. The atmosphere like the waitstaff are crisp, polished and unassuming which leaves the clientele to focus on the true star; the cuisine. The wine list was impressive, and every aspect of each cour... read more
what a nice evening... – Walking into the door of Paley's we were greeted by a seated hostess who welcomed my boyfriend and I like she would welcome friends into her home. Our table wasn't quite ready, so she found us a place to wait at the bar, but rather than just telling us where the bar is, we were walked over and seated... you know how some hostesses just want to whisk you away from their line of vision until your table is ready? She didn't give off that impression at all, we felt taken care of. After we were seated at ... read more
NOT a good place to dine! – Paley?s Place was a real disappointment. I took my wife here recently for a special occasion and I deeply regret it. The night began negatively with service people making fun of some customers by calling them ?wine snobs? behind their backs. I don?t pay for unpleasantness with my food. As for the food, it was poorly executed as my wife?s food was not cooked to edible temperature and my food was average at best. I know that people say it?s a nice place to eat but you might want to think twice befor... read more
Experience that left a lingering bad taste – When friends who were highly selective about restaurants raved on about Paley's, I thought it would be a great place to bring a friend and her French business partner who were visiting Portland. We arrived promptly for our 8:00 reservation, but it took 30 minutes for our order to be taken. Our entrees finally made it to our table at 10:00!! In the interim, despite the small size of the dining room, our waiter managed to completely ignore us (I suppose one of us could have crossed ... read more
While Good, Does Not Specialize in Vegetarian Food – Don't get me wrong; the food here is good and the wine list is superb. But a 9.4 on Vegetarian Food, according to CitySearch? Specializes in Vegetarian? While the chef was happy to turn a non-veg entree into a delicious vegetarian option, there was only one truly veg option on the menu; about what you'd expect from a normal restaurant in Portland. My complaint is more about CitySearch's characterization, rather than the restaurant itself, which was quite accommodating.
Great for Special Occasions – My boyfriend took me here as a surprise for our first anniversary. He made reservations and pre-ordered Argyle. Our waitress was nice, but a bit over-friendly at times, like she was digging for a tip. She wasn't the best at pouring drinks either. The food (he had rabbit, I had risotto) was excellent. Dessert of tres leches is highly recommended, though we didn't have enough room to finish it. A bit pricy, but not overly excessive. A lovely place overall, with excellent food.
Had two meals in Portland recently, here and across the street at Wildwood. This one was best and very good. Excellent entrees, that were well prepared. The service was fine - not too pushy and not to absent. The room is small, so it was certainly easy to here the loud party of four across the room, but that didn't detrach from the experience. Highly recommended.
Not worth the $$$$ – Finally ate at Paley's last night. The food was excellent however the service was not. The dining room is small - some may think intimate - others may think cramped. (This depends upon your preferences.) I did not like the size of the room. The waitress took 15 minutes to brink our cocktails after ordering. The glass had a chip in it and she didn't apologize when she took it away. The dessert menus took forever to arrive and we had to ask twice for coffee to be refilled. In summary, for the price we paid... read more
Wonderful food and service – My husband and I went to Paley's for our anniversary and it was beyond our expectations. The service was excellent and the food to die for. We haven't stopped talking about it and can't wait to go again.
