About this business

This welcoming northwest bistro immediately charms its guests. The subtle floral decor and clean lines are casually elegant. Also, a limited number of tables assure attentive service while enjoying a meal. Begin your meal at the Paley's Place with a bottle of house wine and a fresh green salad. Upscale entrees include crispy sweetbreads, escargot, and braised duck. Insatiable types should wrap things up with rich desserts, such as Paley’s vanilla crème brûlée or caramel hazelnut tart.

disappointed four times – The only time I enjoyed Paley's is when I had too much champagne and my taste buds were dulled. People can say all they want about "local" and "organic". I'd prefer foreign and inorganic if it tasted good. The dishes were not at all memorable. Service varies but was never downright rude; maybe a bit haughty by a few of the people. (Others were very appropriate). It's another example of the Emperor's New Supper. It's Paley's so it has to be great. Try it at least once and judge for yourself. It's exp... read more

Wonderful northwest cuisine – This is the place we take guests from out of state and country. We have never had a bad meal here. During a recent celebration the staff was very accomodating to a large group and even served an extra plate of appetizers.

Creative Northwest cuisine and comfort food attract diners to this intimate, warm restaurant. – In Short Subdued elegance with homey touches define the welcoming atmosphere here. The combination of soft-toned walls, sleek furniture and continental details (hard-boiled eggs at the bar, French liqueur posters on the walls) creates an appealing space. The menu highlights Northwest staples such as pears, mushrooms, crab and salmon. Steak tartare goes deluxe with silken Kobe beef; oysters are among the freshest in the city; and s... read more

Excellent food and service, esp starters – I don't understand the negative reviews here. . . the place is far from cramped: unless of course, you usually eat at the Olive Garden, which has McMansion-sized booths. We were a group of four, seated against the wall next to the front door with a mouth watering view of the cheese plate. We started with four starters and four side dishes, I'll just give highlights. The oysters were delicious in their lime cilantro drizzle -- we were served 3 types. The grilled asparagus, amazing, a... read more

One of my favorite restaurants of all time – I'm not going to get overly technical here -- I was there with a big group for my parents' 40th wedding anniversary. We could NOT have picked a better place. WOW the food was outstanding and we just had a great time. Great local flavors, fresh ingredients, amazing food. Highly recommended.

Excellent dining experience! – Enjoyed an outstanding group dinner here during a recent trip to Portland. Food was amazing - fresh ingredients, ripe produce, great sides, a rockfish special that was to die for (the 3 of us who ordered it all but licked our plates), delicious drinks (special that night was a Strawberry Lynchburg Lemonade, yum!). decadent desserts. On the flip side, my husband liked the ribeye but thought the portion was on the small side for the price. Staff was professional and knowledgeable; our server gave... read more

THE BEST OVERALL FINE DINING RESTAURANT!! – My wife and I are regulars at Paley's Place and we have always had such a great experince there!! The kitchen staff is obviously well versed in the execution of French techniques and fusion with local Oregon ingredients. The menu is always diversified and shifts with seasons, which makes it so much fun. The staff is very professional and the bartender is very knowledgeable. The mussels are great and the sweetbreads are awesome. I wish the glazed carrots were available year round, t... read more

Not worth the hype – We tried this restaraunt because of a recommendation from a friend and were very dissappointed. First of all, there was zero privacy. We were at a tiny table right in the middle of the large room with tables very close together. We were within 3 feet of at least 4 other tables, making it hard to even have a conversationi. Not romantic or special occasion dining atmosphere. The food was ok, but nothing special. We will not choose this restaraunt again with so many other great ones in Portland with far bet... read more

Great food - mediocre service – The food at Paley's is among the best in Portland, but it can be overshadowed by the slow service. The ambiance is lovely, especially for a romantic diner, but one has to not be in a hurry. If goin alone, eat at the bar where the service is much better.
