About this business

This welcoming northwest bistro immediately charms its guests. The subtle floral decor and clean lines are casually elegant. Also, a limited number of tables assure attentive service while enjoying a meal. Begin your meal at the Paley's Place with a bottle of house wine and a fresh green salad. Upscale entrees include crispy sweetbreads, escargot, and braised duck. Insatiable types should wrap things up with rich desserts, such as Paley’s vanilla crème brûlée or caramel hazelnut tart.

Don't believe the naysayers – My wife and I dined at Paley's last night for our 23rd anniversary and while I understand that any good restaurant can have an off night, our experience was nothing like the detractors would lead you to believe. Our experience was excellent! I made reservations four days ahead of time and received a confirmation call on the afternoon of our reservation. We got to the restaurant right on time and were seated immediately-it was almost completely full. Our waiter Rick, was very professional and oth... read more

Looking for some good escargots? – I love French (food)! This restaurant satisfied all of my cravings. The price was definitely worth it; I love that you can order pomme frites as an appetizer and still feel like you are eating high class cuisine. Service was good, music was good, and food was delicious and beautiful.

How do you say, CRAPPY! – As my title suggests this place has crappy food, crappy atmosphere, crappy service, crappy parking, and crappy prices! Paley's was rated as one of the best 10 in Portland. Hmmm... Against the advice of 3 couples I know to have experienced Paley's I decided to experience it myself, with my wife (because of the rating I had read). I'm not sure where the rating came from. It must have been the varments, as varments seem to be comfortable in any environment just as long as there is a similance of food. ... read more

Outrageous!!! – The restaurant would not make a 7:00 PM reservation. They said they open at 5:30 PM, will make a 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM or a 7:30 PM dinner reservation but not a 7:00 PM even though they were not booked. Further, they said that if I want to dine at 7:00 PM it won't be happening at Paley's, not just today but ever! Well, all I have to say is that a restaurant that treats the dining community in this fashion deserves to fail.

All hype and no sizzle, disappointing at best – There are some excellent restaurants in Portland, but this is not one of them in my opinion. Our server was pretentious and inattentive. We waited thirty minutes to order, thirty minutes for bread, thirty minutes for salad and thirty minutes for the main course. Thank God it was tuesday night and they were not busy. I like to enjoy a casual dinner, but I do not like to feel ignored. The salad was a tiny, experimental combination of fine ingredients that sacrificed taste for nov... read more

Quite literally, world class. – Had a meal here with friends. Cute building. Exceptional service. And food that compares - favorably - with the French Laundry and Trois gros in Roanne. Not as elaborate a presentation - although I'm sure they are up to the task - but impeccable. The local ingredients really shine.

What a perfect evening. – Wow. We called Paley's Place tonight on our way there. We had no reservations, and we were wearing jeans, but when we spoke to Kimberly on the phone she told us to come right over and she would have a cozy table in the bistro waiting for us. Wonderful. And, she did! She is the consummate hostess, warm, attentive, and gracious. Our server, Heather, was perfect as well. We were seated with perfect drinks in front of us in a matter of minutes. When we looked at the menu, there were almost too many deli... read more

Portland's Finest – Having heard rave reviews for years, my expectations for Paley's were probably unreasonably high..... however, they managed to be exceeded. I savored a delightful meal last night at Paley's Place. The environment is casual, and warm, but the food and service - top notch. Our server made excellent suggestions and her descriptions were quite helpful - as I was wavering between several delicious-sounding items. From the inspired amuse bouche to the delectable desserts our palates were charmed. Simply put: po... read more

What a huge let down – Went for a big birthday celebration with husband. We'd heard so many good thigns about Paley's. But alas. The food was nearly inedible--seriously. A bizarre smoked mussels-in-citrus dish which was among the worst I've had in a sit-down restaurant. Rest of food completely unremarkable, though not offensive. The dessert was a mediocre slice of ginger cake, a bit too oily. The very sweet waitress reached across my plate several times to pour water--what does it take to provide basic training to wait staff... read more
