February 9th 2011, I gave birth to a little girl with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a potentially fatal heart defect in which the left ventricle is missing or underdeveloped. The NICU staff stabilized my little girl until she was able to have her first open heart surgery at 6 days old. At 4 months, we were back there again for the second stage of her palliative repair. In 1988 I was seen here and told I had leukemia and thanks to the staff and this place I survived childhood leukemia.. My doctor was the best. Sadly he has past away.
When I got the horrible news that my son was diagnosed at the age of 3 1/2 with type 1 diabetes I was so freaked out and told that I needed to head to Doernbecher Children's Hospital. I still remember this day like it was yeaterday, even though it was almost 9 years ago.
