One of the more refined Mexican dining experiences in the city, Nuestra Cocina brings a diverse menu of specialties spanning the central Mexico's renowned culinary palate with some lesser-known influences from other regions. The aroma of freshly prepared food wafting from the kitchen beckons you to the vibrant dining room teeming with the boisterous energy of kitchen staff and conversations among the lively crowd of patrons. The wooden ceilings with mounted antique-looking lamps provides good contrast to the colorful interio... read more

The Best Around – We couldn't ask for a better place. Although the food is upscale and absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Nuestra has the best Mojitos in town! Very refreshing on their patio on a summer evening. The price is right as well, we had appetizers, 2 drinks each, and 2 dinners for around $50. Everything was melt in mouth fabulous.
Terrible service experience, good food – The atmosphere is enjoyable, and the food is better than average, though certainly not fantastic. The service was initially friendly, but quickly soured when we were charged for a fish item more expensive than the one we had ordered. Our server told us that we had been served the more expensive one, but acknowledged that she brought us the wrong dish. Instead of charging us for our initial order, the manager refused to change the bill and essentially accused us of trying to steal a me... read more
My favorite Mexican restaurant in Portland – We live nearby and have gone often to NC--it has subtle, authentic (for Pdx) Mexican food and friendly service. We've noticed the lines get pretty awful by 7 on Fri and Sat nights though so be warned.
Go for the apps & drinks – We were curious why all of the tables surrounding us were only ordering appetizers and once our entrees came we knew. Don't get us wrong-the entrees were good. But the appetizers were amazing-A-MA-ZING. Try the masa cakes filled with chorizo and black beans or the shredded pork-filled (house-made) tortillas. Apps are cheaper too. Then the margaritas are great-try the chile infused tequila. You can keep your bill down and enjoy better food by coming just for appetizers and drinks.
You're out of here – We had a great meal at Nuestra Cocina from start to finish. However, our server, while pleasant and prompt, put a damper on things by being too eager to get us out the door. She took my husband's plate away while he was chewing his last bite, handed him the dessert menu while I was still eating my dinner, and put the bill on the table one second after she brought him a cup of coffee. We weren't lingerers, either: We ordered immediately and had a movie to get to, so we had no desire to stay all night.
Yummy! – Great warm tortillas and pepper sauce - better than the standard chips and salsa. The best margarita. The waitstaff can be good or terrible, but don't let that keep you away. This has the most authentic, amazing mexican food in town. Hard to read sign - but it is worth having an eagle eye out for this place.
Overrated – I expected much more from this restuarant after recommendations. Our appetizer of squash and cheese filled quesidillas was virtually tasteless. The main dish was good, but nothing extraodinary, not worth the $17. The sangria had a great taste, but I really missed the fruit. It was basically just chilled red wine. I thought after being rated one of the top ten of 2004, it would be much more. I don't think it's worth returning. There are plenty of better restuarants in portland!
Great Upscale Mexican!!! – I realize that some other reviews were mixed, but this place was so good that I put off sleep to write my first restaurant review ever. The food: great. Get the beef tips or the grilled seafood (was a special). Have the sangria which is unique and potent. The service: Waitresses were quick and offered perfect suggestions. (and they are Mexican - always a plus) The cost: Do not expect to buy $5 tacos here - the food is authentic, delicious and priced accordingly. Not too expensive though - just high... read more
Some of the Best in Portland – From the first bite of our pork tacos, my husband and I were in heaven. We sampled our way through the menu and were not disappointed with anything we tried. Some of the best flavors I have had in Portland. We will become regulars at this great eatery!
