I got a master's degree in mechanical engineering. I loved NIU... I'm working as an engineer in NN, Inc and I'm satisfied with my job at this moment.
I was sexually abused my freshman year (1969) by my english professor. Many other girls were as well. I dont remember his name. I hope others spoke up. Unfortunately, i didnot. Instead, i dropped out and suffered in silence.
We found out our son was accepted to NIU yesterday and so very excited to join the NIU Huskies!
I did graduate in 1994. I remember going to an orientation for the school of education. They were extremely rude. We were told we were wasting their time. I remember paying a large fee for lunch and tour of the campus. They didn't provide either one. I have heard the college has only gotten worse. There is quite a bit of crime in Dekalb.
As a graduate of NIU it is sad for me to witness the university becoming more and more leftist. A Crowdpac study showed that based on the political donations of NIU employees, NIU is ranked the 136th most liberal out of 446 universities. NIU seems to be doing its best to turn out brainwashed snowflakes.
Greatest school in Illinois! Tom and Jerry's, the Paper Back Grotto, Lukulos, Riding the rail at Molly's, Pizza Pro's Beer Nuggets, The Junction, Annie Glidden Road, and Harold's Chicken Shack are just a few reasons why NIU is da best school in Illinois!
Removal of guest passes, removal of free printing, continuous golden parachutes for high ranking staff, etc. This school is running like a company in its aggressive methods of cutting costs while not cutting salaries. The only redeemable qualities are the teachers who care and the decent living areas.
Move in day was so well run. As a parent who had a different child attend a different university I had something to compare and NIU definitely ran an amazing move in day. Painless until it was time to go home without my son�
While it was a long day - it was very informational. Met a lot of great people. My son also met some great people. It was an overall good day.
