I put a Nordstrand Bigman pickup (Alnico 3 magnets) and an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp in my SUB Ray 4 and it sounds better than any stock bass I've ever played at any music store. Hands down BEST BASS PICKUP ON THE MARKET!
I tried out a new Warwick Bass at NAMM a few years back and it had some Nordstrand pickups in it. I was also having a custom Warwick built for me at the time. I decided to go with Nordstrands in that bass and ended up putting Nordstrands in just about every other bass i have. I just installed a set of custom 18mm big split 5's in my ibanez cerro. They totally transformed the bass. It sounds alive, very open and they are dead quiet. Perfectly matched set with excellent string to string balance.
