Seems like a keeper... – we like the dim lit area and my husband loves the brews. other patrons make it pretty loud and obnoxious but the pub cannot help that. overall great experience.
funky atmosphere – I've been there twice, once for brunch and once for dinner. I really enjoyed the food at brunch and the bloody marys, and the live jazz music. Sandwiches for dinner were good, not the best. Fries were okay. I'm literally addicted to the sauce for the fries.
nice beer – This place is good for an after shopping beer with friends. Basic bar food with good beer. like most places it can get crazy at night or on the weekends get there early and don't plan on staying long.
x – i originally came on Citysearch when someone suggested Nodding Head to me. I read the bad reviews like "arrogant Scottish waiter, too dark, too noisey, too loud, etc..." and thought "this is MY kinda place". great homebrew beer for about $5 a pint, great fries, and a decent atmosphere if you're into a dark beer and a darker bar. one of the better pubs in the city.
Worst Service in the City – I took a few friends here, a couple of beer people like me, and Nodding Head was a disaster. I attribute this mostly to the waiter who was a rude, holier-than-thou type industry guy that turned the night a special kind of worthless. He blathered cloaked-insults at us through his scottish accent, and, when we joked back at him became nasty. He was, as the bar is, worthless. I'll never go to Nodding Head again, guarenteed.
Monkey Knife Fight – If you like Monk's, you'll like Nodding Head. The food is very similar, outstanding muscles and sandwiches. The only difference is that here the brews are in house. Having tried many of the micro-breweries in the area, I would say that for beer alone, this gets the prize.
Great beers, good fare, speakeasy ambience and a slim bill all add up to a pleasant brewpub. – In Short Despite its eye-catching blue sign and bright red front door, this upstairs brewpub still feels like a secret spot. The dimly lit, narrow stairway delivers after-work patrons into the middle of a lively tavern scene. Start with a steaming pot of mussels--catch cumin-spiced Moroccan style if you can--with a basket of tiny brown fries. Best bet for entrees: grilled salmon with lime butter, hearty vegan polenta with flavorful... read more
Right on Target – If Nodding Head were a round of darts, it would score a few bulls eyes. Not only are the darts fun with a few home brewed beers, but the jukebox rocks, the mussels and fries are delcious, the crowd is friendly, and best of all the staff has zero attitude...that's a first for Philly. The cute "Nodding Head" collectible dolls on display also add to the charm and ambience of this local watering hole.
Take it or leave it – While I admit that I left Nodding Head with a satisfied stomach there isn't much more to write about the place. My boyfriend and I went for a Monday lunch and both ordered burgers and beer - he enjoyed his beer and so did I, but the food was nothing to write home about. While the french fries are probably homemade, the burgers are run of the mill.
