Mockingbird Bistro Wine Bar combines Sheely's Texas roots with a style of cooking that he knows well, that of the Riviera, specifically the French Riviera. At Mockingbird, the feel of the menu is "country-French-meets-American-market." Sheely updates the menu seasonally to take advantage of the ingredients available at-market, as well as to give him the freedom to exercise his creativity.

A little typical, but nice – This is your typical nice resturant. The service was great, but the dishes weren't very imaginative. There was the typical steaks, fish, half a chicken, and pork chops that you would see at this class of restaurant. The salads and appetizers were quite interesting with a shrimp bisque and a great salad with granny smith apples. The sorbet for dessert was great. A very simple raspberry sorbet, but very full of flavor.
Alex – Gone straight downhill both in terms of quality of food and wine. The wine "expert" suggested the most expensive wines to try (in the 60-70$ range) and started talking about the Pinot Noir content of a Zinfandel which I couldn't follow at all. Expensive and over rated.
Downhill – What a disappointment! This restaurant has been one of my favorites, but last night's experience will be my last. The mussels, which have previously been a near orgasmic pleasure, were tough and tiny. The pork chop was served nearly raw the first time out, then dry as bone the second time out. When it was obvious my husband didn't like, they didn't even offer another plate. What has happened? New chef, new owner? Neither, just no sense of taste in how to treat good customers. Too bad.
Overhyped food for aging yuppies – While the decor looked great, the service was slow, inconsistent, and not very knowledgeable, the food overpriced, relatively uninspired, and bland. Desserts were fantastic, however, and focused on chocolate. Needs more flair, creativity, and quality in their dishes to justify the price.
comb over crowd cool – maybe, it's me. i have hair. i'm athletic. i have a girlfriend who's 30. mockingbird was once fringe cool, even with its highly outer-loop, comb-over crowd parking sporty mercedes and modified suburbans. but now, in the heat of spring/summer, i see sport jackets and anna nicole smith impressarios. is this really an urban restaurant in the spirit of chicago or new york or even denver?.... the food is better than average, but it's coasting downhill fast. for about the same price, i'll choose the culinary... read more
Solid, but uninspiring – Mockingbird is a solid choice for business dinners, but I agree with others who proclaim it "overrated." I love the location, the understated but classy decor, and the well-priced wine list. But while my food has always been well-prepared at Mockingbird, it has never been particularly memorable or innovative. For the same money, I think you can do better elsewhere.
Overrated – My husband and I have been to Mockingbird three times, first on our own, and after that because friends wanted to go. Personally I would not go back otherwise as the food sounds better on the menu than it tastes on the plate. The service is somewhat rushed. Nice atmosphere and good wine list makes up a little bit, but if food is mediocre, why go?
Nice Place – After reading some of the reviews, I was wondering....but no more. The service was wonderful and attentive, but not the least bit intrusive. The food was great and portions were perfect (contrary to other review notes). Wine list was good. The sommelier gave great advice and was wonderful about helping us choose some interesting dessert wines. Valet parking was convenient and complimentary, so I don't know why anyone would complain. Top-notch and we will definitely add it to our list of "regular" stops.
A little Treasure – Staff went out of its way to seat us without reservations on a thurs night. The food was excellent, and the wine list was very affordable. Decor was very pleasant. Staff was friendly.
