About this business

Mockingbird Bistro Wine Bar combines Sheely's Texas roots with a style of cooking that he knows well, that of the Riviera, specifically the French Riviera. At Mockingbird, the feel of the menu is "country-French-meets-American-market." Sheely updates the menu seasonally to take advantage of the ingredients available at-market, as well as to give him the freedom to exercise his creativity.

A country French/nouveau American bistro with robust fare and bohemian flair. – The Scene Up and coming lawyers, empty-nesters and nearby Montrose/River Oaks foodies flock for a dash of bohemian dining and a little diversion among the darkly lit chambers. This funky-gothic, lofty nest in a small, '30s-era building chirps with character and cheerful service. The Food A hearty, seasonal menu: A crisp, Stilton-gilded bistro salad also contains Granny Smith apple slices. Gruyere cheese atop the 1015 Onion Soup is accompanied by ... read more

Best Ingredients, Best Preparation, Great service – Celebrating a Birthday, five family members went for the tasting menu, three of us chose the wine pairings option. Every ingredient was presented and treated with the utmost respect. A couple in our party had never had foie gras, but it was prepared in such a way that anyone with any palate would *love*. The wines were far from run-of-the-mill, and truly quite adventurous. Just trust Chef, and everything's gonna be great, honest! What a treat!

Diners, uh, of a certain age – Groovy place, not groovy overall. If you're under 50, that is. If you're over 50, probably feels 'rebellious'. Decent food, but kind of silly suburban folk looking as if they dress-up to go out and drive waxed cars to impress. My own set goes more for great food and wine. But the grilled lamb was decent, as were the salads. Sorta dated in the 80's overall. Would prefer da Marco or Catalan or Max's (off hours only).

Bad Food / Horrible Atmosphere!! – Food was horrible!! We had four people in our party and no one liked the food. Portions are so big they are unappetizing. Food presenation was unsightly. The dinning room is dark and dusty. Very expensive for such poor quality food and experience. Staff was nice but you can not run a restaurant with a nice staff and bad food!

STRANGE atmosphere, nice food. Will be back!! – This place looks lke a gloomy castle and needs a re vamp. The food, however, is excellent and the chef was so warm, nice and friendly when he came out to our table to see if we were happy. I recommend the place if you don't mind the Knights Of The Roundtable vibe.

decadent wine selection – The hostess a joy to be greeted by and she gave us a wonderful window table. The chilled tomato basil soup was perfection as a first course and the calamari was lightly fried so you dont feel bad for devoring it! Marcy( the vino expert) helped pick out a out of this world wine ( nicely priced) that went perfectly with the lamb entree. Overall my freinds and I had a great time. Dont forget dessert, the sorbets were great for beating the Houston heat! the only pitfall was Mockingbird a little loud on ... read more

Great service, ok food – Hostess offered black napkins for those wearing dark colors! Server Teresa was one of the best I've ever had! Wine list was extensive and decently priced. Food was, well, ok. Salad and lamb were unremarkable. Creme bruele was more of a custard.

Great food with relaxing atmosphere – The waitstaff is attentive without making me feel rushed. My favorite starter is the charcuterie with the pate and Serrano ham. The chicken is always juicy and delicious and the rack of lamb is to die for. If you are lucky enough to eat there when venison is on the menu, you are in for a real treat.

This is Superb Dining – I am shocked seeing some of the past posts about this gem of a restuarant. I was to this restaurant for business (took the president of my company!) and I was so enchanted by how it would be for a date I told my boyfriend we had to go back. While I was impressed with the service and delectable taste of the food on my business dinner this restaurant really shines for a date. The service is seriously second to none in my recent dealings around houston and the food is just wonderful. Flavorful, fresh, in... read more
