Mockingbird Bistro Wine Bar combines Sheely's Texas roots with a style of cooking that he knows well, that of the Riviera, specifically the French Riviera. At Mockingbird, the feel of the menu is "country-French-meets-American-market." Sheely updates the menu seasonally to take advantage of the ingredients available at-market, as well as to give him the freedom to exercise his creativity.

Not what I expected.... It was even better!! – My Husband and I decided to go treat ourselves before we went to have our taxes done... Boy, did we feel great after eating such a wonderful lunch! The Beef Carpaccio made me think "This is the reason for cows!" The prime steak was another devine beef plate... cooked to perfection and served with some of the world's best pommes frites (or as we call them... french fries). The prices are steep, but what you would expect from a classically trained Chef who operates a beautiful top... read more
simply SUPERB! – My wife and I recently had lunch together. I could not have asked for anything more. Considering the menu's offerings, it was fairly priced. A bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. The service was prompt and attentive, while far from intrusive. My wife enjoyed her meal immensely, and the mussels were to die for! Not an everyday hangout, but well worth a trip. Kudos to the Chef!
Amazing cuisine and great atmosphere! – I went with a girlfriend to celebrate a special occasion. We had an 8pm reservation on a Friday night and were seated promptly upon arrival. The food was superb and the service was excellent. The chef came out mid-course and greeted us and asked if we were pleased with the food. For dinner I had the tuna steak w/ wasabi whipped potatoes - DELISH. If you have a sweet tooth you absolutely MUST try the flourless chocolate cake. AMAZING. This place is a bit pricey - definately not $$. We b... read more
What has changed here?? – I dined last Friday at Mockingbird, and the food was "off". Our meals started with the 1015 onion soup, and it had a really bitter taste as if it had been burned. The color was really dark and no amount of salt could bring out the flavor I am normally accustomed to. The waiter happily replaced the soup with a delicious Ceasar salad, but it was not worth the $14 price tag. On to the entree which for me was the short ribs. They had no flavor and the barley risotto was cold. I regretted not sending it ... read more
Look Up the Word Reservations! – My parents were in from out of town and we had heard everything about this place and always wanted to try it. We book 8:45 reservations and arrived and 8:30. By 10:00 we still had not been seated. Needless to say, we left and will never return. The staff was rude, and they tried to get us to pay for our drinks. NO WAY! Why make reservations! Thanks for destroying our night. I will pass the word.
Business response:
So sorry for the long wait. That night everyone sat a little longer than usual. But I take offense to the rest of your comment. Our staff is professional and courteous and no one suggested that you pay for your drinks. On the contrary after you refused your table and asked for the check, you were told that the drinks were on the house because of the long wait. Thank you, Chef John Sheely
Beautiful atmosphere, friendly service, and wonderful food! – Our experience at Mockingbird was great. I highly reccommend the calamari, and the steak frittes. The service was outstanding, Michael the general manager came to our table to check on us several times - very impressive. The service could not have been better! We will definitely be going back to Mockingbird again soon!
Excellent Service, Better Food – The experience at Mockingbird last night was nothing but exceptional. Their service was outstanding, with more than one waiter willing and able to handle any need. The wire list and food menu were excellent, and our meals, complete with soup, daily specials, and dessert were served and tasty divine. I highly recommend the 1015 Onion Soup and the chocolate torte for dessert. One of the top 10 restaurants I've been too in Houston, and the prices were not bad for the level of food and service qu... read more
Poor service – We were seated upstairs. When the waiter came to get our drink order he was out of breath and sweating a lot. He took our drink order and then it was a solid 15 minutes before we got our drinks, and that was only after I ran him down and asked him where they were. When he brought them, one of them was wrong. I took it back downstairs to the bar myself. When he came back to tell us about the specials he flew through them so fast that we really did not catch very much of what he said. The sea bass was excellent ... read more
Service! – The only place I ever been where you have several waiters and if you need to go to the bathroom, they accompany you to open the door for you and escort you back. Also, they provide a colored napkin based on YOUR attire.
