Mitchell’s Ice Cream opened for business on June 6, 1953. Larry and Jack Mitchell’s goal was to make the very best ice cream in San Francisco. The Mitchells started out with nineteen flavors; all made with 16% butterfat cream and superior ingredients. They continued to add flavors as their store became more popular and in the early 1960’s they were the first to introduce Mango ice cream to the Bay Area. Love the peppermint candy ice cream. Lines were a little long but it was totally worth the wait!
They make the best eggnog ever and I love their coffee ice cream all that ice cream is really good but I think my favorite is the coffee my daughter likes UB that's how you spell it's the purple one it's a purple yam but they are the best and specially the egg nog OMG
I was born 6 days after Mitchell’s opened. Born and raised in SF, my family went to Mitchell’s a lot. My dad was a SF Fireman for 32 years The flavors are awesome. In our family it was: dad. & mom , butter Brinkley, me, chocolate chip, my brother, thin mint. Even though I moved out of town. I still come back to Mitchell’s. �
Swensens still better to me..but the EggNog is the best..
I haven’t lived in CA for decades, but one of my fondest memories of my childhood was my older sister taking me to Mitchell’s after school in the early 1960’s for Rocky Road ice cream made with walnuts (NOT ALMONDS). �
