About this business

In 1915, Mario DeBenedetti began baking Italian breads in Lockport, Ill., using family recipes he brought to America from his homeland. He called his bakery Milano, after the Italian city he remembered from his youth. Demand for his fresh-baked breads grew quickly, and in 1926, the Milano Bakery moved into a new building. The company still turns out hearth-baked breads and rolls that are available in grocery stores and restaurants throughout Chicago. Great local place. Even better dounuts. Kids asked the young lady a million questions about what things were and she was very helpful. I will be making this a every weekend stop

Milano made us an almond flavored wedding cake with raspberry filling and scraped vanilla buttercream. Wedding cake is dry and tasteless, right? NOT THIS ONE! It blew me away and many guests asked where we got it from. The almond flavoring was perfect (I feared it might be too delicate/not noticeable) and the filling was rich and plentiful. Just perfect! Yvette is a master!
