In 1915, Mario DeBenedetti began baking Italian breads in Lockport, Ill., using family recipes he brought to America from his homeland. He called his bakery Milano, after the Italian city he remembered from his youth. Demand for his fresh-baked breads grew quickly, and in 1926, the Milano Bakery moved into a new building. We looked into Milano’s for our wedding cake because we were getting married at The Haley Mansion and it seemed convenient. We honestly weren’t sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised! Working with Yvonne was amazing. The moment we sat down for a tasting, we could tell she knew her stuff. The cakes were completely customizable and decently priced. Love everything Milano! Have gotten many many cakes from there and all are perfection! Frosted sugar cookies are just like the ones I remember from a local bakery in the town I grew up in. My newest indulgence are the vanilla long johns!!!
As bad as I feel about leaving this review, it must be done. Saturday, Feb 10 I arrived to pick up a cake I had ordered and it was not exactly what I asked for. The 3 women working the front were super sweet and offered to take the cake and have it fixed. I felt bad asking, but agreed because it just wasnt as I ordered.
