Dr. Bernard is a very good Doctor, listens well, offers strong advice. However there are major issues with the Covenant Health scheduling department and patient communications. I used the patient portal to communicate. I rec'd a text saying my appointment was a certain date and time. It was incorrect so I emailed and texted a reply. The response was nonsensical. I've known Dr. Bernard for 19 years. He and his staff have been very accommodating with scheduling and treatment, thorough in diagnosing, and proactive in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
We moved to Knoxville in fall 2019 and searched quite a long time to find an internist. After lots of research we decided on Dr. Bernard. We found him to be personable, patient and knowledgable. in the last year or so, Dr. Bernard had requested my husband come in more frequently (every 3 months) to monitor some numbers. During that time he noticed my husband's PSA to be elevated. After 2 instances of high PSA he referred him to a specialist. Dr. Bernard is not a good choice for any patients who have issues with weight. He is very critical of those who are over weight and ridicules them.
I injured my ankle walking to my car to go to work. I knew it was serious due to amount of pain. The local ER's had wait times of over 3 hours tube seen. I had my husband drive me to Dr. Bernard's office with the hopes that he could see me. I figured I would have to wait a while but I was seen within 6 minutes of arriving there. I have been a patient of Dr. Bernard's for many years and this is just one of the MANY reasons that I will continue to be his patient!
I have been with Dr. Bernard for over 15 years, he’s very professional he’s helpful in diagnosing a rare condition. Dr.Bernard does not sugar coat what you need to do as a patience, Good listener.

I’ve been a patient for about 5 years and he is a really good physician. He never seems to be in a hurry & always takes time to listen to what my health issues are. He’s very thorough and is pro active with my health and lifestyle. He’s a believer in diet & exercise to prevent problems later on. I would highly recommend him as a primary physician.
I'm a long time patient of Dr B. He and his staff are great. Any time I have been ill they have squeezed me in the same day. He is never in a rush, thoroughly explaining himself and answering any questions. He is very proactive in providing a comprehensive plan of remedy on the first visit. Contrary to some other reviews he is never condescending or judgemental. We have discussed a handful of bad decisions I've made but his approach is always factual not judging.
