About this business

Expertly blending traditional Mexico with creative interpretations of local and seasonal ingredients is the inspiration behind Mercadito restaurants. Spanish for "little market ", Mercadito is modeled after the markets chef Patricio Sandoval shopped at while growing up in his native Mexico. His muse is the cuisine of the southern region but when mixed with his own style he creates authentic dishes with an added flair.

Loved it - try the tasting menu! – Had a reservation for 6 people and showed up with 8 - we ended up having to wait a while at the bar, but the manager went totally out of his way to make sure we were having fun and sent us drinks and appetizers to make up for the wait (and some excellent tequila at the end of the meal) - we enjoyed ourselves at the bar, and the food was totally worth the wait. Did the tasting menu, which was a great deal for delicious guacamole, ceviche, tacos and dessert. Would definitely go back. Great at... read more

Make reservations! – Recently, I had decided to take some good friends to Mercadito but couldn't remember the address so I had to look it up. I was amazed to read some negative reviews. I felt compelled to write in. I love this place. I always get the guacamole taster, the ceviche taster, fundido, the fish tacos of the day and some other tacos they might recommend. The food is delicious and not cheap! It's a night out and I always figure a few hours because the plates come out one at a time. It's a real experience. And don't... read more

Fab date night fair – This place was recommended by a friend and I wasn't disappointed. I had a date here and it's an intimate location, but a fun one. Good for conversation. The food is good, interesting--and I especially enjoyed the guacamole taster platter. All in all, a great place.

horrible staff...great food – I've eaten here several times and the food is great but the service is God-awful. Thursday night we gave it another shot and left wishing we hadn't. We called ahead to find out what time they closed and were told "our kitchen closes at midnight." We showed up at 11:30 and were told we had to put in an order right now because "the kitchen is like closing, in like 5 minutes." Very condescending, very hurried which I could understand if she came to take our order but we didn't see her for twenty mi... read more

Awsome Guacamole – The place is small, but very cozy & romantic and the Guacamole could be the best in the city. I was very impressed by the service and the knowledge of the waitress, she was a good salesperson.

VERY SMALL OVERPRICED PORTIONS! UNJUSTIFIABLE!!! – First off, I am Mexican and grew up in California. I love my mexican food and am very particular when it comes to it. The Portions were RIDICULOUSLY SMALL. Tacos are 2" in diameter, I'm not exaggerating. For 4 - 2" tacos they charge 13.50. I went home and ate my boyfriends leftover chinese food because i was still hungry. Ambiance is nice though. I can't complain about the food, it was all nicely prepared and tasty. I just can't justify paying $13.50 for bite size tacos. Tha... read more

Delicious food, terrible service. – NyMag said it had the best fish tacos in the city, while they aren't wrong I wouldn't return simply because of the bad service and unwarranted expense. First my fiance and I were denied a table in the corner due to the fact the tables were reserved, minutes after we were seated the same hostess tried to seat another couple along the wall who then requested the corner table. You could tell the hostess was so frusterated with denying people the only roomy tables in the place she just let the... read more

Incredibly Rude – My boyfriend and I took his parents here on a Saturday night. The food was great and we enjoyed the meal, but everything was ruined when a manager approached our table just after we'd paid the bill and asked us to get up so that they could seat another party. I have never had this happen to me before, regardless of how busy a place was, and I was mortified. A little basic curtesy on their part (or a more diplomatic solution, ie buying us a drink at the bar) should have been used. Or they simply could have w... read more

BIGGEST RIP OFF ON "NON MEXICAN AT ALL" FOOD (From a real Mexican) – I was born and raised in Mexico and i have never seen tacos this small in my entire life. Chef was not flexible at all and didn't want to combine the order of tacos (although all these fillings for tacos have to be prepared in advance). Only regular coffe and a weird super sweet mix they call "tres leches coffee" (inexistant in Mexico). No capuccino, no cafe con leche, not even tea of any kind!!! I ordered huevos rancheros to the "obviously non mexican wait... read more
