About this business

Expertly blending traditional Mexico with creative interpretations of local and seasonal ingredients is the inspiration behind Mercadito restaurants. Spanish for "little market ", Mercadito is modeled after the markets chef Patricio Sandoval shopped at while growing up in his native Mexico. His muse is the cuisine of the southern region but when mixed with his own style he creates authentic dishes with an added flair.

Best service and ceviches in town – I brought my family to mercadito after receiving a great recommendation from a friend of mine. He was really right about Mercadito. Since the moment we arrived the staff was very polite and attentive. we ate in the back room and received and excellent service from Marcelo and the rest of the staff. My wife was delighted with the ceviche tasting and my children amazed me because they only want chicken fingers and fries every time we go out but in mercadito they ate everything, is not great?... read more

Great mexican date and drink spot – This is a great t little restaurant in an even better part of town. I used to live in this neighborhood, and I can't believe I've never gone here. I think it was mostly because there was always a line, and no one wants to wait in line on their own street. Anyway, best fish tacos I've had in NYC so far. They've got some pretty creative dishes, and the drinks at the bar are a lot of fun. Most importantly the managers there were super cool with getting us seats, despite all the people waiting... read more

DON'T EVER EAT HERE!!!! BAG STOLEN AND SHADY EMPLOYEES!!! – Do not ever go here very sketchy place!!! My friend's purse was stolen here over dinner and when we realized and told the staff they were extremely uncooperative. They did not help us search the place and were very defensive. The manager didn't even offer to pay for our dinner!! The restaurant is tiny, uncrowded and only people that were ever near us was the staff.....Suspicious, right? Unfortunately for the them, whoever stole her purse used her credit cards and no... read more

Where are the Carne Tacos? – Let me just say that I love Mercadito. While dinning there again last Saturday night I was once again impressed with the food, service, and margaritas. The tacos are my favorite - they may look small - but they are truly wonderful. I am also partial to the strawberry margaritas, but don't order them if you go to the west village location - they're not nearly as good. I was disappointed to see that they changed the menu and replaced the amazing lime and mint carne tacos with a sad substitue. The n... read more

Good Customer service, but small! – I probably would review the place better had i visited in the summer because they have a great outdoor area. We sat inside and they crammed all the tables together. We were also by the door, so people who were waiting hovered over our table waiting for us to leave. The food was great, but expect to spend 30 - 40 per person. I reccommend the chicken platter. The tacos only come with 4 mini tacos. It is also a traditional mexican restaurant, so the tortillas are corn and everything is made f... read more

I LOVE MERCADITO – This is my favorite restuarant in the entire east village... great food... amazing drinks... and terrific bartenders. Ask for Amesh.. he makes the best margaritas in NY.... Their tacos and guacamole are so good... just make sure you get there on time cause it gets packed.

Way too expensive – The food in this place isn't bad, but don't go there if you're hungry at all unless you're planning on spending a lot of money. A tacos entree is about USD 14 and you get four tiny tacos with that and the side isn't included (a side of rice & beans is 4.50). Unlike in other mexican restaurants, you don't even get tortilla chips with guacamole or anything like that. The service is also very bad. The server was rude, and was insisting so we'd order appetizers. When we left, we didn't give a big tip because ... read more

Awesome Margaritas/Guac – Stumbled on this place just walking around the neighborhood. Sat in the back in super cute enclosed garden dining area. They have a lot of awesome flavored margaritas and an amazing guacamole tasting dish. Casula but friendly service and excellent ceviche...would certainly come back!
