Below average and over priced – Went here last weekend for dinner and i really wasnt impressed at all. its your average restuarant with average food and average service. My food was ok i ordered the chicken. They did have good oysters though but for whats its worth this place is too expensive for the below average food they serve. I love dining and there is really nothing special about this place. Theres better places to go too in my opnion.

More of a pickup spot – We had dinner at Mecca last night and were immediately wowed by the setting; the circular bar was indeed the centerpiece. After our eyes adjusted to the darkness, we then saw that we were in the thick of a gay singles scene, complete with costumed animals. Our waitress seemed impatient for us to quickly get in our booth and order, and when our food arrived, the guy who brought it to the table was a tad grumpy ("take the plate--it's hot!"; usually they, wearing mits, warn YOU not to touch it--how odd.)... read more

Happy Hour – I happened into MECCA for happy this week really not expecting much as I seem to remember the bar scene kind of dying there. I could not have been more wrong. $1.00 oysters, $6.00 Martinis and one jumping bar. The drinks list has changed a bunch from a couple of years ago and is really quite interesting.

Expensive, but great food – I stopped going to Mecca a couple of years ago because the food had become inconsistent. But I have been back two times over the last two months and I was ecstatic over the great food and service. My friends agree that there has been a revival of good food at Mecca.

Fabulous – One of our favorite places to eat. Always good food, friendly host/hostesses, pleasant, efficient service.

Fair food; wonderful interiors. – This was my second visit inside of a year. Mecca is another one of those trendy places I don't think I "get." Not that I need to, but... The food was fairly average; nothing stood out or was memorable. My companion thought his crab cakes were good; I thought my heirloom tomatoes didn't taste as fresh as I had expected. My companion thought his tuna was overcooked and I thought my duck was cooked just right, but it had no flavor. We passed on desserts. The service was fine; no complaints ther... read more

LA/NY Sophistication in SF – Surprisingly delicious food with sophisticated West Coast decor, the food literally lives up to the hype and Mecca does deserve to be on the Chronicle's top 100 list. From the state-of-the-art foie gras to the superb crab cakes with aioli, the enticing roast squab and incredibly tender pork loin with sheep-milk ricotta, the sinful rich desserts, the food wins you over. A hidden bargain treasure on the wine list, the Turnbull Merlot, turned this evening into a delightful hit. To fully appreciate t... read more

Fave restaurant in the City – I LOVE this place! I have been to Mecca three times now: once on a romantic date with my fiance, once on a double date, and once with friends visiting from the UK. All three times, the service and food were exceptional. As a former restaurant manager, I admit to being extremely picky. Service has been friendly and prompt, from the valet outside to the kitchen and waitstaff. Our servers were knowledgeable about the menu and more than agreeable to any meal changes or substitutions. The food is an ... read more
