Bad Service from the Management – I went to Mecca in September of 2005, and used my check card to pay. The charge FINALLY shows up FEB. 2006 on my bank statement. And I am charged not once, but TWICE! I call and leave a message for the manager. He doesn't return the call. Then I call again and he answers this time. He says it's a glitch in the system and it can be corrected. (I can accept that part, things like that happen sometimes.) But it seems weird to me that I would have to CALL THEM, 2 WEEKS AFTER it was charged twice... read more
Simply Fabulous Dining Experience! – I hadn't been to Mecca in quite some time, but decided to try it again with a small group of friends. We were not disappointed! The food was way better than I remembered. We feasted on a variety of dishes recommended by our highly attentive and personable server, including the melt-in-your mouth Foie Gras and the excellent Mecca French fries. Knocked the sock off – I've taken three work associates to Mecca in the last 2 months, and each time my guests were *wowed*. The ambience alone is an experience--where DO they find such large flower arrangements? And then the food starts coming. It's all about the sauces! Just dabs and dribbles, but what amazingly pretty and tasty additions! I never knew duck didn't have to be chewy and stringy. And interestingly enough--they serve the best garlic fries in the world. Thankgiving Day Nightmare II – Building on an earlier review, we also attended Mecca on T-day and it was horrible. They seated us 1-1/4 hour after our reservation with no apologies (they claimed to be triple booked -- who's fault is that?)!! The food was mediocre at best and definetely NOT worth the price they charge (especially after the aggravating wait). I would NOT recommed this restaurant to anyone and I'll never return.
Not Worth It! – My wife and I visited Mecca on Thanksgiving night after making reservations more than 2 weeks in advance. When we arrived we were told to wait 15 minutes for the table. One hour and fifteen minutes later someone comes around to show us to our table. Thanksgiving dinner nightmare!! – Waited 25 minutes over reservation time before beng seated. Service was worse than McDonalds. Wsan't sure if I was at a nice restaurant or a diner. Definitely not recommended on busy nights.
um.. nice decor but too pricey for the quality – the decor is nice, but the food is just average. cocktails are very pricey at $10 a pop. Service was slow and people were in 30-40 age range. nothing too special or exciting about this place. I would not recommend it given the numerous nicer restaurants in the city.
Food was good, but the service sucked! – We tried Mecca again after not eating here in 7 years, due to prior bad experiences. 7 years later, the service is still about the worst I have ever experienced in any upscale restaurant. It took nearly 3 hours to complete our meal. We waited 1/2 hour after the appetizer for the main course to arrive, and another 1/2 hour for the coffee to arrive (which we drank nearly cold because the waiter never brought us the sweetner we requested...oh he did, but it was 10 minutes after we finish... read more
What happened to this place? =( – Since Gene and Carl sold the place it has gone downhill fast. I noticed the disappearing staff several months ago. In the past few months, the restaurant manager, the head chef, and the bar manager have all taken off. They've been replaced with younger newbies who don't have the pizzaz that guests have come to expect. Additionally, the day manager Giovanna and the hosts Jake and Rachel were fired.
