The singing servers in this Opera Plaza eatery have made Max's a San Francisco legend. The food at Max's at Opera Cafe has inspired several smaller Max's (the Diner, Max's Eatz, Sweet Max's) to spring up all over the Bay Area. Besides opera, what can one expect at Max's? Chopped chicken liver and onions, hamburgers and fries, or pastrami on rye. Just about any calorie-packed deli-style temptation imaginable is on the menu. If you don't feel like a hamburger, order a dessert. They are all huge (including macaroons that seem t... read more

It took almost ten minutes to get any service. The menu is extensive and yet everything is expensive, including sandwiches. $18 for the flavorless mac n' cheese I ordered is highway robbery. Furthermore, the pianist plays at stadium level volume such that I am still suffering from tinnitus. I'd rather brown bag it to the Opera than suffer this establishment again.
I loved that they were able to accommodate our big party. However they forgot my order. I waited patiently until the waitress let know they had given it out by mistake. My party tried to wait for me to eat but it took so long I told them not to wait anymore. I realize this happens but normally a compensation is offered. In this situation it was not the case. I will not be going back.
I'm missing the Happy Hour food menu that has been replaced by the Holiday Menu which is not Happy Hour friendly(it's more expensive). Please bring it back.
When it comes to reminiscing an old fashion hamburger not found any place like the old Hippo Burger or even a tiny down grade to Barney’s Gourmet Hamburgers which is still goin in the Marina, Max''s Burger is just too much for one person to handle. There are other Max's to visit but the Opera house is where we found live piano music with singing waitresses. I wish they'd do it again Sam. Enjoy.
Their meats taste like they were from Costco. Not like it use to be.
I love these place.. Affordable the service is awesome!! I will come back again
