Do not even drive by without confirmed reservations, this is the most popular Japanese eatery in town. It is considered by many to be the best sushi place in the US, and the best restaurant in the greater city of Los Angeles. Everything is fresh, delicious and very expensive, after all it is the workmanship of Nobu Matsuhisa. Rub elbows with the rich and famous, but leave your autograph book at home.

My obsession!!! – Just say the name Matsuhisa and i smile. It is by far my favorite restaurant. It took one visit with my boyfriend and i was hooked. All the chefs are fun and friendly. The service up front is especially helpful, prompt, and very accomodating. Love is a strong word... and I LOVE this place. the only con is the price, It can be quite pricey... to get the most for your money try The ceviche and yellowtail jalepeno dishes.. Oh and dessert_the bento box... My Fave!!!!
Go for the hot food – My brother and I dropped in for impromptu dinner on a weeknight and waited 15 minutes for two seats at the sushi bar. We ordered a mix of sushi as well hot food off the menu. Surprisingly, the sushi was average, something you can get at most mid-priced sushi restaurants. But the hot food was wonderful. We tried to kobe beef, the miso sea bass, king crab tempura, and a couple of things I can't remember, but all of them were very tasty. The portions are small, more like tapas than entrees. The price tag w... read more
interesting and unique food – husband took me there for my birthday. the fish was very fresh, and they had some interesting food combinations. we were dissappointed at first when we had to keep ordering rather thatn have the chef make the food omakase-style. most interesting thing was the tuna and beluga caviar in a champagne glass. the bill was over $300 for the two of us, kind of over-priced for what it was, but you're paying for nobu's fame
Go for the omasake menu – If you go with my recommendation for the omasake menu, definitely go with a slightly filled stomach, because the portions are small. For $80 or $100 or $120, you can get some unique dishes (7 total ~ quality changes with price). So with my personal experience, the $100 menu offers some delicious creations. First, Japanese oysters (one with caviar topping, another with Maui onion salsa), second, salad with fresh sashimi and vinaigrette, third, spanish mackerel in warm chili sauce, fourth, shrimp-fish... read more
Not impressed at all - here or NYC. – An extreme disappointment after finally visiting this supposed mecca of sushi. After hearing friends rave about it, I finally decided to try this place out. The first time was unmemorable, and I thought I'd give it another shot. The second time I went with a friend who had been to the NYC Nobu and considered it average. We both thought the sushi was extremely average, even eithout consideration for price. Our waiter didn't even point out the Today's Specials. We discovered it ourselves h... read more
Don't be fooled by its modest setting--this revered restaurant serves groundbreaking cuisine to a celeb-heavy crowd. – The Scene Chef Nobu Matsuhisa is often seen in his flagship restaurant, welcoming both celebs and common folk in his surfer-print chef pants. The noisy dining room is surprisingly casual, with cramped seating, bright lighting and framed posters decking the walls. The Food With more than 100 dishes, the menu is so unwieldy that it's best to order the dazzling omakase tasting menu, which begins with Matsuhisa'... read more
Fresh and tasty sushi! – My husband and I went here for the first time on New Year's Eve for dinner and was surprised to see Chef Nobo himself! He was a delight and we had a wonderful experience from the service to the food. Our favorites: Blackened Cod with Miso, the crab dish special and surprisingly the filet was awesome! The sushi was nicely cut, pretty generous amount and all very delicious! The staff was very nice as well. If you don't have reservations you can always wait for the sushi bar and the sushi chefs are atte... read more
Quality for those that know it – If your idea of sushi is a California roll swimming in soy sauce, as is frequently the case for Americans, then the quality of Matsuhisa will go by you. In fact there are only three other restaurants in all of Los Angeles which have the quality of sushi offered by Matsuhisa, and none have the creative dishes that make them a "must try while in Los Angeles" for anyone that wants to explore something new in Japanese cuisine. Yes, the prices are higher than average, but still reasonable when com... read more
surprisingly mediocre – The ingredients are superior, but I found the my overall dining experience underwhelming. Maybe I was expecting too much. The restaurant lacks atmosphere altogether, which probably made me expect more from the food. Our server was to-the-point and prompt. It's definitely not the place for simply sushi (especially rolls, which are miniscule). Of all the cold and hot dishes that my friend and I tried, none really stood out. The yellowtail with jalapeno is fresh tasting, but nothing impressive, and the r... read more
