Do not even drive by without confirmed reservations, this is the most popular Japanese eatery in town. It is considered by many to be the best sushi place in the US, and the best restaurant in the greater city of Los Angeles. Everything is fresh, delicious and very expensive, after all it is the workmanship of Nobu Matsuhisa. Rub elbows with the rich and famous, but leave your autograph book at home.

Off the charts! This was one of the first places I went to in Los Angeles, and it met every high expectation. The flavor of the fish was off the charts, and it's somewhat of a shame because it has been hard to replicate that feeling despite trying a whole host of sushi options in Southern California. the prices are high, but for the special bursts of flavor, it's worth it.
Great food, but not sure if the price is worth it. This is a high class establishment, where the food is premium, the service is good, the dishes are small and the prices are high. Great for date nights, but expect to pay $100 per person.
total disappointment – My friend and I went for celebrating our birthdays as our bds are very close to each other. As we both know that Nobu is a good restaurant, we wanted to try Matsuhisa for this event. However by the time we left, we might have expected too much... Terrific Tuna FANTASTIC and expensive! Located in Beverly Hill! Fresh selection in fish which melts in your mouth. Tuna is to die for and I've never had the black cod with miso soup like this anywhere else. It's pricey but worth it at least once!
Overpriced and underwhelmed – I don't get why this is a well-respected restaurant. I hated it. The tables are so close together that you bump into other people or they bump into you regularly. The service was awful ... my waiter not only got my order wrong (bringing me food I didn't order, then charging me for it), but he never brought the rice I ordered either. Get the omakase – I don't think anyone can say that the food isn't good here. My friends and I had the omakase and it was amazing. My favorite was the soft shell crab. The decor is really casual and tacky, but in a charming way. The only downside is that this place is not for everyday dining for the majority of us since it is pricey.
Service needs work! – For the money you're spending here, it would help for the service to improve. The waiters don't know how to "wait"...you have to crane your neck to try to track them down to ask for something. They don't seem to care about their customers. Food was good, but definitely think it's overpriced. and incredibly small portions. You go for the scene, but if you want a good sushi place, there are plenty of better restaurants out there.
Disappointing – After dining at a few of the Nobu locations (which I like), we were excited to give Matsuhisa a try. Being an avid sashimi fan, i was VERY disappointed. The salmon was fatty and chewy, and the yellowtail and tuna were definitely nothing special. We also had the rock shrimp (which was fine - same as everywhere else) and a crab dish which was ok. Good unique dishes – I always have a good dining experience at Matsuhisa or any of the Nobu locations. I wouldn't come here and order sushi. You can do better on sushi elsewhere. Their unique dishes are what makes this place great. Unfortunately, it is a bit on the pricey side, but worth it in my opinion. If it's your first time, I would definitely get the tasting menu, then you can start to figure out what you like best for subsequent visits.
