great – I went last year and had a wonderful time. Food was very good. Salmon was outstanding. Portions huge. We had the family style menu and portions were unlimited. Drinks a little pricey but o'well. Ambience reminded me of a place where Sinatra might hang out.
Far exceeds the old Philly standouts. Food, atmosphere and service are all top notch. Even though they are growing nationwide, they still remain consistant and authentic. Number 1 in my book.
excellent! – I went there with a group recently and the food was delicous and the portions were so generous. A great place to go with a lively atmosphere and excellent food.
salt palace – The meal I ate at the Maggiano's near the convention center had to be one of the saltiest of my life. My lips were chapping midway into the meal! In general I'm a salt-lover, but this was entirely too much. The Dallas Maggiano's is great and I was hoping this one would be, as well.
pleasE!!!! – All the great italian restaurants in South Philly & a chain restaurant makes this list? gimme a break....this is kethup & noodles compared to great institutions like Marra's, Ralph's, La Vigna, Fredericks, Popi's, Macaroni's & Gregorio's in the northeast. I wouldnt even recommend this to a tourist, cause its not real Philly Italian!
All hype, but no hope – My in-laws and I ate at the Center City location. They are very Italian. First, how can an Italian restaurant not have Italian bread? Who dips rye in olive oil? The food was competent, but not great. The service was dull and uninterested (it would have been nice to be checked on). The food was very reasonably priced, and the soup was great. If you want real Italian food, go to Ralphs, Gnocchi, or L'Angelo. It's not that bad at Maggianos, but there are so many better places.
I loved it back home, I love it here – I'm from Virginia, and was elated to find out a Maggiano's was opening here. I don't go as much now, but last year my boyfriend and I ate there once a week. The service is great, and the food is even better-surprising for a chain restaurant!
The McDonalds of Italian – You have got to be kidding me with this! How can you list a restaurant that has one in evey city. Every time I have been to one the food is always bland and mass produced. There is no love behind the food.
Come Hungry – Nice atmosphere, good food, extra large portions, good prices. Just a little too noisy due to accoustics. Sometimes hard to hear others in your party.
