A horrible experience – Tipping is a perogative, and at Madam Mam's it's an unwritten requirement to tip more than ten percent even if you don't feel the service deserves so. I used to frequent this restaurant several times a month with my friends because we live so close to it, but one Sunday night, the waiter didn't bring back change from our bill, and we felt his assumption deemed him a lower tip. We had stepped perhaps 3 feet from the door before we were stopped by the waiter. He harrassed us on the sidewalk, and the man... read more

Delicious Thai food – The food at this place is incredible. Definitely the best Thai I've had in Austin. The thai beef salad and Tom Kha Chicken soup alone are worth it. I wish they had another nicer location with better atmosphere, more specials, where you could enjoy with a glass of wine and not feel like you're at a McDonalds! As with so many restaurants in this town, just turn down the lights a little and it will make a difference.

Who is Madam Mam, anyway? – If I was going to open up a Thai place on the Drag, I probably wouldn't have been smart enough to make it like this. I cringed walking into this place: Madam Mam's? The thought flittered across my mind that this was probably the introduction to Thai food for thousands of students. In the end, it wasn't that bad. Thai food for the masses, they stick purely to the staples of Thai food, and probably get their recipes from the back of the little freezer dried packets of spice you can get in any Asian ... read more

love it! – I love the food here. I eat here at least once a week. Try the Tom Kha with chicken or the flat rice noodle with chicken, basil and mushrooms. Very spicy!

best Thai in Austin – I think I've eaten at every Thai restaurant in Austin, and this is by far my favorite. The food is incredibly flavorful, my favorites being Tom Kha and the P13 Curry. It's also cheap. The restaurant itself has little personality, so I call in my order and bring it home. Although it's on the Drag, there's an open space in front where you can always park while a friend dashes in & picks up the order.

Salty – read a review in Austin Insight...said it was real thai...but is more salty and westerners idea of thai food...disappointed. although good for college kids with the munchies that don't know thai food well i guess
