Bustling UT-area restaurant offers affordable, fresh renditions of Thai cuisine, including staples like pad thai and tom kha. – In Short With tables close together, this casual always-crowded spot is better for energetic meals than quiet conversations. Simple tile floor is a fitting contrast to colorful Asian tapestries adorning cream walls. Fun dinnerware includes curved plates with mod Asian flair and whimsical unmatched chopsticks. Shrimp spring rolls are dense with black mushrooms; noodles and mint. Tangy beef salad feat... read more
Best Thai in Austin – Madam Mam's has very good Thai food. Like all ethnic restaurants in the US, it has incorporated some westernized dishes to accomodate folks used to bland food. However, Madam Mam herself is from Thailand, and has only been in the US since this restaurant opened.
Great DELICIOUS Food – The food here puts its own wonderful spin on thai, pure entertainment for your taste buds. It can be a bit crowded at times, but simply because it is so popular, for good reason... It is moderatley priced The food is great It's right in the middle of the college scene So, if your seeking some great food for a great price this place comes highly recommended in my book.
Crazy waiters – I'm writing this review to confirm that yes, the waiters will chase you down and make you tip them more. This happened to two groups of my friends. The first time they left a $1 tip because the waiter took their order and NEVER came back. They never got refills on their drinks, the order wasn't correct, and they had to flag down another waiter just to pay for their food. The guy didn't do *anything* -- someone else gave them their food -- so he didn't even deserve the dollar he got. The other group it happene... read more
Horrible Service!! – Yes, it's true, the waiters here actually chase after customers complaining of a lack of or insufficient amount of tip. They don't understand that bad service = tiny tip. The food is great, however; I enjoy their Pad Thai. But if you don't horrific service, then you should try their food.
excellent curry – This is the only place I have found in Austin that can cook a really great curry. My favorite is the panang curry - if you want it hot you need to tell them Thai hot, or "real" hot. otherwise they'll give you gringo hot. service: its a thai place. I have never been in a thai place that had *really good* food and *really good* service. and i have eaten in thai places all over the world. in thai restaurants service and taste are inversely proportional: deal. if you want a bit less taste and great service go t... read more
Average food, horrendous service – If you've been to Thailand (or nearby) or even NY (!) you know this is completely Americanized (sweetened/accordingly portioned) Thai. Don't think this is authentic just b/c some college kids who know little of food/value call it so. Aside from servers notoriously disappearing w/ your bills (presumptuously not returning any change), the place's grossly understaffed/undertabled. Oncethe host seated TWOcouples who came in after us--granted it's lunch and everyone's waiting--and when we brough... read more
Best Thai Food in Texas – I have eaten at Madam Mam's 2-3 times a week since they openned. Obviously, I love it. The food is fresh and so delicious. In particular, I love the super spicy curries, the fantastic Num Tok salad dish, and anything with the Thai Holy Basil - especially the Pud Ped Ga Prao. I have eaten at many famous Thai food places in California, Washington State, and the East Coast and none compare to this place. Thos complaining about the service are way off base - it can be uneven, but very rarely is it anyth... read more
Great Thai, interesting menu – Just ate there again for the first time in quite a while, and quickly reminded of how great the food tastes. Especially love the minced pork/rice cracker appetizer. Also had one of the squid dishes, which was masterfully done.
