Despicable, unethical company. When COVID-19 started, I requested a freeze on my account because I have health issues that put me more at risk of hospitalization (or death) if I were to contract COVID-19. They told me they would freeze the account at no charge to me. This month I found almost $150 worth of charges on my credit card for my brother and my membership (6 charges in total). After cancelling my membership they have been billing me. I handed my cancellation form in person at the Kenwood/Montgomery location as I was told that I could by the lady I spoke with. Now to find out they did not do their job and I have been getting charged for XXX months worth of membership dues at 42.79 a month. I would not recommend anyone joining LA Fitness. After COVID-19 Gyms opened on Tuesday September 1st in NJ. Due to my high risk factors I decided to cancel my membership. I work long days and went as soon as I could on Saturday to cancel my membership. I was told that I had to mail a form and it would not take effect until they received it in California. Which means the earliest would be end of the following week due to Labor Day holiday. LA Fitness makes managing your account very challenging. I wanted to cancel my account, calling them up to speak with a Manager to do this, I cannot. Two things, they do not perform this task over the phone, and the Manager was not available according to the gentleman that answered the phone. Think this through - you can cancel your garbage, electricity, water, cable/internet, natural gas... over the phone with a few verifications of your identification. BUYER BEWARE. As a professional, I know that customer service is the number one important element when running a business. Unfortunately, this company has been a nightmare. LA Fitness - Henrietta, NY. We have a silver sneakers membership, but signed up for a 1 year membership that included a trainer. At that time we were reassured they do not auto renew memberships. Prior to expiration we again confirmed with the manager that we did not have to complete a form to terminate at the end of the contract since they do not auto renew. Guess what - our account was hit for the monthly fee anyway! Now we are in a waiting queue for resolution. Very disappointing since the trainer and facility were great.
This company in horrible. Do not sign up for personal training!!! They give you 30 days to use all sessions left or you must pay again for each month. There is no consideration for someone that had changes in their life. I was a member for more than 3 years. Now they want to keep $800 of charges and said too bad for me.
I called corporate, first on Aug. 10, and spoke with Juan, a supervisor, about refunding the balance of my trainer membership. I was assured that, in lieu of the current situation, my credit card would be refunded the pro-rated balance - he also checked and confirmed my records of what was left on my contract and said I would be credited within 5-7 business days.
