Still the KING – I am amazed at some of these reviews, I have been dining at this restaurant for over 15 years and it is still the best. The quality and service are 2nd to none. When I need a lights out romantic dinner this is the spot. Yes, it is expensive but no more than 1/3 of the restaurants in Philly. They have earned their fantastic reputation. Their pasta with Pheasant is ridiculously good. I am huge fan of the Seans and their restaurants. Le Castagne is also off the charts.
Nothing to Brag About – I visited La Famiglia during Restaurant Week (September 2006). The service was acceptable, but nothing special. The food was edible, but nothing to brag about. (The eggplant was good though.) I realize a visit outside of Restaurant Week might yield more impressive results, however Restaurant Week is a time to sell your restaurant and encourage people to return. This simply did not happen and I will not return.
horrible restaurant week experience – Group of us went to La Famiglia for restaurant week and had a truely aweful night. We didn't even see a (food-stained paper) menu for over an hour. Gnocci's were overcooked until they were mush, polenta tasted like a salt lick; only thing that was OK was eggplant. My friend got the steak ent... read more
truely Italian experience – Wonderful atmosphere, great food, outstanding service. Nothing was overlooked. I had a Mediterranean white fish prepared at tableside in a lobster sauce. It could not have possibly been prepared and served any better. The fish was a very meaty white fish and literally fell apart when touched with the fork. Maybe a little pricey for the portions served...but a nice dining experience.
9 – "Wow", what a suprise after reading some not so flattering reviews here on Philadelphia CitySearch. The service was excellent, the food was terrific. Mr.Guiseppe (one of the owners)was a true gentleman. We arrived a half hour early and were seated promptly. After being given our choice of upstairs or downstairs dining.A "class act by far". A bit "overpriced" for the portions served (My husband says). Overall, a wonderful experience. We will definately be back. Your favorite dish: penne w/ prosciutto, primiezie salad
