This small taco shop may not look like much, but the food is a real treat. The restaurant is located in a popular neighborhood of Northeast Portland. Latino mural work, including a map of Mexico, covers the walls at this Mexican eatery. Eat at one of the few tables inside or on the sidewalk if the weather permits. When you try the Carne Asada Torta, it will be hard to sample other items, but try not to miss the scrumptious burritos on offer. The line to order may get long at dinner, so try calling ahead.

The BEST carne asada burritos in town! Cheap, clean and always fast. Been coming here since 2001. Make sure to grab rosted peppers and onions. Great hot sause bar. !!!!
DON'T EAT HERE – I ate a burrito here yesterday and got food poisoning - it didn't even have meat in it. Yeah, it's cheap, but believe me, it's not worth puking later. Although I'm pretty angry it happened the silver lining is that I can warn you --- don't eat here!!! You do not want to feel like I have been for the past 24 hrs - in bed all day eating jello and praying you won't puke again.
Good Cheap Food – So this is a pretty authentic spot. Mexicans go in it every day and they are also cooking it so you know it's good. (When futbol (aka soccer) is playing you know you're in the right spot.) Fish tacos are delicious for all you non-meat eaters! And the portions for everything is rather large so you could make 2 meals out of the burritos or whatever if you wanted. I have some friends that come here almost everyday and they continue to go back. Would recommend it.
Bargain that feels and tastes authentic – Feed a family of four for $20-$25 and get great mexican food with larger than usual portions. We have done this with family, friends, and out of towners, and each time the group was happy with the flavors and the portions delivered. Call in your take out order and can stop and go in minutes. It's all good from salads and burritos to chimi's and more, you will find something you like at a very good price.
Awesome tacos and cheap! – My husband and I, on our quest for delicious tacos in our neighborhood, went into La Sirenita to check it out. We both got a carne asada and a carnitas taco. Both tacos had a lot of meat and was tasty and cooked well. They are only $1.35 each so our whole order was really cheap. We also got some rice and beans, which were pretty much standard, and an order of chips which were crisp and tasty. They also offer a nice little condiment bar, where we got some smokin hot roasted jalapenos. The food was r... read more
Best Burrito I've Ever Eaten – The soft tostada/veggie burrito is only $3, and is easily the best burrito I've ever had. This place is as authentic as it gets. Ive been a solid customer there for three years now, go there about once a week, and have never had a bad experience. La Bonita, its closest competitor and neighbor, is less authentic, more expensive, and bland in comparison.
The Best Until Today – This is/was the best local mexican spot in NE Portland until today. I ordered fish tacos and a order of chips with pico de gallo. When I pulled the chips with pico out of the bag they were wrapped in, an insect fell out of the bag and landed on my counter still alive. I have eaten there for years, but unfortunatly will never go back.
Awesome Mexican! – I ate at La Sirenita a few months ago upon a friend's recommendation, and abso-frickin-lutely LOVED it! It's a small hole-in-the-wall type of joint, but very close to the true essence of what a genuine taqueria should be. Go to Mexico and you will find many places like La Sirenita that offer similar, equally tasty fare. If you're looking for Latin cuisine that is big on ambience, don't go to La Sirenita - go to Andina's in the Pearl for some Peruvian (and pray that you get good service there). I've actually eaten at La Sirenita a lot for someone who doesn't like it all that much. This is true for 2 reasons: 1) I'm a hopeless cheapskate, 2) I'll eat just about anything. There was a time about 12 years ago when La Sirenita and La Bonita, a block east, where the only 2 eating establishments on Alberta St. Hard to believe now that there's countless trendy joints spread out from end to end of the 30 block area between MLK and 33rd.. It survives based on a tried and true formula of big portions at low cost. You get what... read more
