I had a total replacement of my left hip by Dr. Berend on August 9, 2016. I was up walking later that evening with a little stiffness but minimal discomfort. Dr. Berend lengthened my left leg by 3/4 inch; I was walking independently within a week and discarded the lift that I had used. The skill, professionalism and care of Dr. Berend and his staff from pre op through all post op care was first rate. The entire practice and facility is run very efficiently; Dr. Berend et al are the BEST!

He entered the room with an entourage of colleagues...very intimidating. I brought my MRI as asked, but he did not review. I told him a hip specialist said I need a replacement, but the MRI was read as negative. Based on his x-ray and a VERY brief "wiggle" of my leg, he confidently said I did not need a hip replacement. He ordered another MRI after a cortisone injection failed to help, which confirmed the need for surgery. I called twice to discuss the findings and 5 1/2 WKS later they called!

When Dr, Berend entered the room he told me I had severe osteoarthritis along with the subluxed patella and a med. retinaculium tear, he didn't know how to treat me so he wanted to consult the other dr's and call be back later that day, this was on Friday, Wednesday his nurse called to tell me I need a total knee and since I didn't want one I needed to stay in my brace for 4 weeks and then to PT and call in 2 months to f/u. I'm 39 with non-symptomatic OA. He was treating the X-ray no me.

Dr. Berend is a straightforward, courteous, highly skilled and experienced surgeon. He also leads his field in seeking ways through research to improve patient outcomes after the major types of orthopedic surgery that he performs, e.g. total knee replacement surgery. From the patient perspective, my impression is that he and his group are highly specialized and efficient in joint replacement surgery, employing well established and up to date methods.

Total hip replacement and I was walking fine in 24 hours. This was the easiest surgery ( I've had a total knee and shoulder replacement. Will have him do my other knee and hip.

My mother got her knee replaced with Dr. Berend and it has been the worst experience of her life. Yes, we knew this would be painful and a tough road to recovery but we had no idea dealing with the doctor and his staff would be so awful. It has been almost 4 weeks now and her knee has only progressively gotten worse. Her knee is now swollen and emotionally she is unstable and they said we can see you in a week, call 911 if suicidal. I will forever regret sending her here.

Dr. Berend performed a total hip replacement on my left hip, including adding between 3/4, and 1 inch to the length, on Sept 21, 2015. Within hours of the surgery a physical therapist accompanied me walking in the hall. I was amazed at only having some stiffness, and no pain. I was released the following day, after being told I could do home therapy, due to the range of motion I had. I attribute this quickness of healing, with no pain, to the expertise of Dr. Berend. My opinion he is the BEST
