6000 square feet of futuristic décor (inclusive of strategic lighting, metal rods and chic seating), and an A-list clientele give Katana a super-trendy vibe. If Japanese food is your thing and money isn't an issue, this is the place to be. With various seating spaces and dining areas like the Sushi Bar, the Robata (the grill), and the Sunset Room, you can take your pick as far as ambiance is concerned. The delicious offerings consist of an assortment of soups, rolls, main courses, tapas, sake and more, but the establi... read more

Overrated Scene, Horrible Food – I am very easy to please but Katana's food is just plain bad. The sushi overall is very poort. Most strip mall places in L.A. have better fish and rolls. We had a lobster roll that tasted as if it was covered in Velveeta cheese and with way too much mayo. At 7 p.m. on a Friday night the kitchen was out of a certain tomato salad (how can you be out of tomatoes?). The service was a nightmare. I've lived within 15 minutes of the restaurant for the past 15 years and the waiter treated us as if we... read more
Do not eat the sushi – I'm afraid my first time at Katana left much to be desired. Although the ambiance was fabulous, the food left a a bitter taste, actually burnt, to be exact, in my mouth. How does one mess up a California roll?? At least the desserts were tasty. Go for the drinks and the trendy bar scene, but make sure you eat dinner before you leave the house. Oh, and carpool, because parking ended up costing us $20 each, for just over 3 hours.
COOL!!! – It's definitely an excellent place for entertaining overseas visitors. Both food and service are of high quality.
yummy chocolate cake.. – This place has nice trendy decor & good services. Food are great, but dessert is superb, I'd say try their chocolate volcano cake, it'll left you craving for more ;)
Hip, but not because of the food – The food was good, but not great. I tried several of the various robatas, which were good. The sushi was at best average given the price, and the service was kind of slow. On the whole, Katana is not the place to go for fine dining. However, I definitely reccomend it as a hip spot for a date, or a place to start a night out on the Sunset Strip. The decor was striking inside, and the patio dining area felt simultaneously spacious and crowded with trendsters. The sake menu was the best I've s... read more
Rocks! – This place is fun, has great food and although it's scene-ish, it's a great spot to get together with friends..Robata is something you can't find in many other places and it's really good. Definitely try the chicken robata
Decent sushi, but delicious appetizers... – Went there last night & the friendly waiter suggested one of their specials to start the meal: shrimp wrapped in bacon. They should add this "special" to their menu. It was by far the best part of the meal! The sushi that followed didn't even come close to comparing with the shrimp appetizer. Ask to be seated outside because it was so smoky from the grill inside the restaurant that my clothes still smell like smoke a day later.
ON THE GRILL – This is not the place to go for sushi. Though, they serve it, they really specialize in grilled meats and fish. The cod is superb, best I've ever had. The drinks are good. It is a great place to people watch and for a celebrity owned restaurant, I think it's the best in town. For upper class tapas, the prices are very reasonable. Whether you are with friends or on a friendly date, Katana is a solid choice. You can't go wrong with the food from the grill. Happy Eating.
On the decline... – I used to adore Katana, and admittedly it's still hard to beat the setting. But the last two visits suggest that the food is just something the kitchen churns out to kill time until the bar scene gets cooking. For a place this expensive to turn out so-so sushi is a crime. Still a great place to take an out-of-towner for drinks
